The [British Library](https://events.bl.uk/exhibitions/agathachristie?ref=unknowndivide.com) is about to open its doors on the Queen of Crime. *Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery* runs from 30 October 2026 to 20 June 2027 in London, marking 50 years since her death, and the Library's lead curator calls it the biggest Christie exhibition in the UK in almost 25 years. It opens this Friday.

## Walk through her stories, room by room

Instead of a straight timeline, the show is built like one of her plots. Visitors move through five settings drawn from the worlds she wrote about: an English country house, a dispensary, a train carriage inspired by the Orient Express, an archaeological dig and a West End theatre. Clues and Easter eggs are hidden throughout, so the exhibition doubles as a mystery to solve while you go.

It is a smart way to tell her story. Each setting connects to a part of her life, from the dispensary that ties into her pharmacy studies, to the train journeys and archaeological digs she knew firsthand, and on to the stage that took her stories to the West End.

## The objects worth the trip

More than 100 items are on display, developed with Agatha Christie Limited and the Christie Archive Trust, and many come from her own life rather than from the page. The highlights read like a fan's wish list:

- Her 1937 Remington typewriter, which is purported to have been used to write *And Then There Were None*.
- Her pharmaceutical exam notes from 1917, a direct line to all those poisonings.
- The typescript of her first short story, *House of Beauty*.
- Plot notes for *Murder in Mesopotamia* and *They Came to Baghdad*, plus notes for the adaptation of *Witness for the Prosecution*.
- Her Leica camera and Dictaphone, and a letter about her 1931 journey on the Orient Express.
- Travel photographs from Egypt, Hawaii and Southern Africa, including shots of her surfing in Hawaii in 1922.

The Library is also placing her in the wider world of detective fiction, with a notebook from Arthur Conan Doyle and feedback from fellow crime writer Dorothy L. Sayers among the items on show.

## Why it matters now

Christie is one of those writers everyone thinks they know, which is exactly why a show like this lands. Seeing her working tools, her handwriting and her holiday snaps turns a brand name into a person: a pharmacy student, a keen traveller, a surfer and a meticulous planner of plots. For anyone who grew up on Poirot and Marple, the typewriter and plot notes alone are worth the ticket.

## Plan your visit

The exhibition is supported by Great Western Railway and runs at the British Library in London until 20 June 2027\. Tickets, including off peak options, are on the [official exhibition page](https://events.bl.uk/exhibitions/agathachristie?ref=unknowndivide.com). A companion book, [Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery](https://shop.bl.uk/products/agatha-christie-a-world-of-mystery?ref=unknowndivide.com), edited by Martin Edwards and lead curator Lucy Rowland, is available from the British Library shop.

## Our call

This one is Surfacing. A Christie show built like a mystery, packed with her own typewriter, notes and photographs, is the kind of exhibition that rewards both superfans and curious first timers. Book early, give yourself time to hunt for the clues, and pick up the companion book on the way out.
