[Behringer](https://www.behringer.com/en/products/0722-ABA?ref=unknowndivide.com) has put one of the most loved polysynth sounds of the early 1980s back on a keyboard. The new POLYEIGHT is an analog, eight voice, fully programmable polysynth that Behringer says faithfully reproduces the character of the Korg Polysix, from its discrete VCOs to the famous 2044 lowpass filter, then stacks a set of modern extras on top.

## The sound it is chasing

Behringer credits the Polysix with defining the early 80s polysynth sound, lush, characterful and instantly musical, and the POLYEIGHT goes after that recipe directly. Each of its eight voices carries saw, square and pulse width waveforms, and the 2044 filter comes with resonance plus positive and negative envelope control, so you can push it from soft and round to sharp and squelchy.

The effects are a big part of the story. Chorus, phaser and ensemble are all bucket brigade (BBD) designs, and Behringer stresses that they sit inside the signal path rather than being bolted on at the end. That matters, because the swirl of those effects is a huge part of why the original sounds the way it does.

## More voices, more ways to stack them

The POLYEIGHT has eight voices, and it lets you decide how to spend them. Poly mode gives you eight single oscillator voices for chords. Double mode pairs them up for four fat voices. Unison throws all eight oscillators at one note for leads and basses that hit hard. A sub oscillator, switchable to one or two octaves down, adds extra weight, and there is pulse width modulation and a global noise generator that Behringer describes as inspired by the MS-20.

Modulation gets a serious upgrade too. A multi waveform LFO and an eight slot modulation matrix open up routings for deeper sound design across every patch, and the arpeggiator covers up, down and up down patterns with both manual and external tempo control. Chord memory and polyphonic portamento round out the performance tricks.

## Built to be played

The keyboard is a 49 key, full size, semi weighted keybed with velocity and channel aftertouch, which puts it a step above the slim keys found on many compact synths. The panel pairs a deep blue finish and cream knobs with wooden end cheeks, and an LCD with an encoder handles quick editing across 256 user program memories. There are CV and pedal inputs and full MIDI, so it slots into a modern studio as easily as it sits on a stage.

## Price and availability

Behringer has not yet listed a price or a ship date on the official product page. The full feature list and the user manual are already available on the [POLYEIGHT product page](https://www.behringer.com/en/products/0722-ABA?ref=unknowndivide.com), and the [official manual](https://cdn-media.empowertribe.com/2613103449a6763dc1be198e419d1e80/Manual%5FBE%5F0722-ABA%5FPOLYEIGHT%5FA4%5FWW%5F2026-08-25%5FRev.3.pdf?ref=unknowndivide.com) is worth a read if you want to see every control before it lands.

## Our call

This one is Surfacing. An eight voice analog polysynth built around the Polysix sound, with BBD effects, aftertouch and a real modulation matrix, is the kind of announcement synth players wait years for. If you have ever wanted that early 80s shimmer without hunting down a vintage unit and its repair bills, keep this one on your radar.
