Behringer has had a busy week. The company has put a new drum machine, the [RD-765](https://www.behringer.com/en/products/0704-AAP?ref=unknowndivide.com), on its official product pages, complete with a user manual and a launch video, and its eight voice analog polysynth, the [POLYEIGHT](https://www.behringer.com/en/products/0722-ABA?ref=unknowndivide.com), now has a full product page of its own. Here is what Behringer says about both.

## RD-765: classic drum sounds plus your own samples

Behringer describes the RD-765 as a hybrid drum machine with 176 drum sounds, sample recording, a 64-step sequencer and a dual-mode analogue filter. The pitch on the product page is simple: the classic kit is there, and when a pattern needs a sound nobody else has, you record it yourself and give it a channel in the kit.

New samples come in through a user sampling menu and can be assigned to any instrument channel. Each sample can be tuned over a range of 24 semitones up or down. According to the [RD-765 user manual](https://cdn-media.empowertribe.com/94241fe4a2e8a8be90f936498eb477be/Manual%5FBE%5F0704-AAP%5FRD-765%5FA4%5FWW%5F2026-10-28%5FRev.1.pdf?ref=unknowndivide.com), the machine uses 12-bit samples by default, and the bit depth can be changed per voice in a bitcrusher sub-menu when you want more grit.

The manual lays out 16 voices on 16 pads: two bass drums, two snares, low, mid and high toms, rimshot, cowbell, handclap, tambourine, two closed hi-hats, an open hi-hat, crash and ride. Sounds are organised in 16 soundbanks. Banks 1 to 9 hold the factory sounds and banks 10 to 16 start empty for your own kits, which can also be saved to a computer.

## Shaping each hit

Three tools handle sound design. A Wave Designer attack control adds punch to the start of each hit. The dual-mode analogue filter runs as a low-pass or high-pass filter, and it can be assigned to single voices rather than the whole mix. The bitcrusher lowers sample bit depth. Behringer also notes that filter cutoff moves can be recorded into a pattern as you play.

## A 64-step sequencer with probability

Patterns can be played in real time or entered step by step, across up to 64 steps. Swing runs from 25 to 75\. A per-voice probability setting lets notes come and go, so a beat keeps shifting over time. The manual adds flam, note repeat, randomisation and an auto fill function, with 16 patterns per song and 8 songs in memory.

For connections, Behringer says MIDI and USB link the RD-765 to the rest of a setup. The manual describes MIDI in, out and thru, a USB port that can carry MIDI and clock, a sync input, and three trigger outputs on the rear panel that can fire external gear from the high tom, rimshot and cowbell, and handclap and tambourine channels. The machine can follow its own clock or sync to MIDI, USB or an external trigger signal. Firmware and sound management run through Behringer's Synthtribe software, which the product page lists at version 3.3.0 for macOS and Windows.

## POLYEIGHT: eight voices of Polysix sound

The other instrument with fresh official detail is the POLYEIGHT, which Behringer calls an analog 8-voice programmable polyphonic synth built to bring back the sound of the Korg Polysix. We first covered it when the product page went up, in [Behringer POLYEIGHT Is an Eight Voice Analog Polysynth](https://www.unknowndivide.com/behringer-polyeight-analog-8-voice-polysynth/), and the page now lists the complete feature set.

Each of the eight voices uses discrete VCOs with saw, square and pulse width waveforms, feeding the classic 2044 lowpass filter with resonance and positive or negative envelope control. The signal path is fully analog, based on VCO, VCF and VCA designs. Unison, double and poly modes give an 8 VCO lead, a 4-voice double mode or 8-voice single VCO sounds. Chorus, phaser and ensemble BBD effects sit inside the signal path.

The keyboard is a 49-key semi-weighted full-size keybed with velocity and channel aftertouch. A sub-oscillator reaches one or two octaves down, a noise generator is inspired by the MS-20, and an eight-slot modulation matrix and multi-waveform LFO widen the sound design. There is an arpeggiator with up, down and up-down modes, chord memory, polyphonic portamento, 256 user program memories with a compare and match feature, an LCD with an encoder, CV and pedal inputs, and full MIDI.

## Availability

Both instruments are listed on Behringer's site with manuals and Synthtribe downloads. Behringer does not give release dates on these pages, so check its [drums and percussion catalogue](https://www.behringer.com/en/products?category%5Fid=drums-and-percussion&ref=unknowndivide.com) and each product page for where to buy in your region.
