[14 Mirror](https://bocci.com/projects/14-mirror/?ref=unknowndivide.com) brings a hand-applied mirrored finish to the 14 series, the cast glass pendant that started the Vancouver studio's catalogue back in 2005, and it goes on sale at [bocci.com](https://bocci.com/shop/14-series/?ref=unknowndivide.com) today, October 20\. If you have ever walked under a cluster of 14 pendants in a hotel lobby or a stairwell, this is that same object with a completely different personality when the lights go down. ## A light that changes state The idea is simple and very clever. When a 14 Mirror pendant is fully lit, the glass reads as clear and the light passes straight through. Dim it or switch it off and the mirror takes over, so the sphere reflects the room around it instead of glowing. Bocci co-founder Omer Arbel puts it best: "14 Mirror is less a colour and more a condition. It never fully resolves into one or the other." That makes this more than a new colourway. A cluster of mirrored spheres over a dining table will look like polished chrome drops during the day and turn into warm, glowing glass at night. In the official photos shot by Fahim Kassam, the pieces sit against brushed steel walls, and the reflections stack up so much that it is hard to tell where one sphere ends and the next begins. ## The 14 series, refreshed Bocci calls 14 its first and most iconic piece. Designed by Omer Arbel, each pendant is made from two cast glass hemispheres joined into a solid sphere with a textured equator, and the studio leans into the natural imperfections of the glass rather than hiding them. The mirrored version adds another layer of individuality, since every piece is mirrored by hand and no two come out exactly alike. The finish is available across the range. That includes the 14p, Bocci's portable and rechargeable take on the pendant, surface mount pieces that attach directly to a ceiling or wall, random suspensions that hang pendants on coaxial cables in loose ambient groupings, and geometric suspensions. The geometric format was introduced for Bocci's 20th anniversary as a new way to mount its first catalogue piece, and in mirror it looks especially sharp, with tidy pyramids and grids of reflective spheres hanging in midair. ## How to get it 14 Mirror is live on the [Bocci 14 series shop page](https://bocci.com/shop/14-series/?ref=unknowndivide.com) from today. Large chandeliers are a serious commitment, so the portable 14p or a single surface mount piece is the easiest way to live with the mirror finish first. ## Our call This one is Surfacing. Bocci took a 2005 design that already defines modern glass lighting and made it do something new without changing its shape.
