Collina Strada has always treated clothes like a mood board come to life, all clashing color, wild prints and a big sense of humor. Now the New York label is taking that energy into the home. Interiors brand [Layered](https://us.layeredinterior.com/pages/collection-collina-strada?ref=unknowndivide.com) has teamed up with [Collina Strada](https://collinastrada.com/?ref=unknowndivide.com) on a collection of rugs and sofas, and it is Layered's first collaboration with a fashion designer.

## What is in the collection

The lineup is tight. There are four hand tufted rugs and a modular sofa offered in two fabrics. Everything is anchored in founder Hillary Taymour's signature pink and green, and the patterns come straight out of the label's own history.

One pattern was lifted from the floor of Collina Strada's flagship store on Canal Street in New York. The other is the plaid that walked the brand's AW26 runway. Those two prints show up across the range, from flat rugs to upholstered seating, so a room can echo both the store and the show.

## The rugs

The rug collection includes the Plaid rug in Garden Pop and Haze, a Garden rug in Haze, and a Petal rug in Olive Plum. Two of the designs are flower shaped sculptural pieces in different colorways, and they are the standouts. Instead of sitting in a neat rectangle, they bring loose, organic forms into a room and pull against its straight lines.

The craft is where this goes beyond a logo swap. Layered says each rug is hand tufted by two to three artisans, a process that can take up to four days. The pile heights and edges are carved by hand to capture the looseness of a fashion sketch. On the [Plaid Haze rug](https://us.layeredinterior.com/products/collina-strada-plaid-haze?ref=unknowndivide.com), that means 100 percent wool on a cotton backing, with a 12mm low pile and a 17mm high pile cut against each other for a raised, three dimensional surface. Several standard sizes are listed, and custom sizes are available too.

## The sofas

The [Collina Strada sofa](https://us.layeredinterior.com/pages/collection-collina-strada-sofas?ref=unknowndivide.com) keeps Layered's modular shape and changes only the surface. It comes in two archival cord fabrics. Plaid Garden Pop carries the green and pink plaid from the AW26 runway, while Petal Olive Plum uses the petal print first seen on the flagship floor. Each fabric is offered as a 2 seater, a 3 seater and a 3 seater with an open left end, and the modules can be combined to fit a space. Fabric samples are available, and Layered handles orders and availability by enquiry.

## The idea behind it

Taymour founded Collina Strada in 2008, and the label has long been known for a youthful, vibrant look tied to sustainability and eco activism. Her quote on the launch sums up the collection's attitude. She says she is interested in creating tension between opposing ideas, beauty and discomfort, fragility and strength, fantasy and realism, and that fashion and design should evoke emotion and individuality rather than perfection.

That shows. These are not polite background pieces. A plaid sofa in pink and green or a flower shaped rug carved in two pile heights is meant to give a room its own personality.

## Why it matters

This one is Surfacing. Fashion labels put their names on homeware all the time, but few back it with this kind of making. Hand carving, multi day tufting and patterns pulled from the brand's own archive make this feel like a real extension of Collina Strada rather than merch.
