Most racing watches borrow the look of motorsport. This one is built to do a job at the track. French independent watchmaker [Depancel](https://depancel.com/en?ref=unknowndivide.com) has revealed the **Autosport Les 2 Tours d'Horloge**, a limited edition made for the 24 hour historic car race of the same name, and it comes with a subdial you advance by hand to count every hour on track. Only 100 numbered pieces will exist, and the [official page](https://depancel.com/en/products/autosport-2-tours-horloge?ref=unknowndivide.com) currently lists it as coming soon.

## Depancel Autosport, race edition

Les 2 Tours d'Horloge, roughly "two turns of the clock," was created in 1992 by Éric Van de Vyver. It is a non-stop 24 hour race for historic machines: GTs, touring cars, sport prototypes and Sports 2000 cars. This year it runs November 7 to 8 at Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France. Depancel is a brand driven by automotive culture, designed and assembled in France, so the tie-in makes sense.

The clever bit is at 3 o'clock. That subdial carries a double scale, 1 to 12 and then 13 to 24, made for tracking the hours spent racing. Each time a full hour passes, a press of the pusher moves the hand forward one step. When the race is over, the 1 to 12 scale goes back to its everyday role as a month indicator. Over at 9 o'clock, the day of the week subdial picks out Saturday and Sunday in yellow, a nod to the two days of the race.

## Dial, case and finishing

The dial keeps the textures that define the Autosport line: brushed sectors, guilloché subdials and a minute track around the edge, with Super-LumiNova C1 for the lume. The 316L steel case measures 39 mm across, 46 mm lug to lug and 12.6 mm thick, or 11.2 mm without the double domed sapphire crystal, which makes it a very wearable size for a sporty complication. The bezel is polished, the lugs are circular brushed and the flanks are brushed horizontally, so light moves across it in different ways depending on the angle.

Flip it over and the details keep going. The rotor has a radiator grille motif and a shield with three tricolour stars, and the caseback crystal carries the Les 2 Tours d'Horloge logo.

## Why it matters

This one is Surfacing. Special editions usually stop at a logo and a colour swap. Depancel gave this one a working purpose tied to an actual race weekend, then kept the case at a sensible 39 mm.
