**The Elder Scrolls 6** finally has a name, and it is a big one. Bethesda Game Studios revealed [The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel](https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/11/03/the-elder-scrolls-vi-official-name-reveal/?ref=unknowndivide.com) on November 3, the same morning the studio marked 40 years of making games, and searches for Elder Scrolls 6 and Elder Scrolls Sentinel shot up within the hour. After years of a single hazy mountain shot standing in for the whole game, fans now have a title, a logo and a short teaser full of clues.

## What the teaser actually tells us

The [official teaser](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFu8t9735IY&ref=unknowndivide.com) is short, but Bethesda packed its description with lore. It opens on a line credited to Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate." Every word of that is doing work.

First, the place. Sentinel is one of the great port cities of Hammerfell, the desert homeland of the Redguards on the western edge of Tamriel, the continent where every main Elder Scrolls game is set. A title named after a Hammerfell city, plus a quote from a Hammerfell queen's own Moth Priest, is about as close to a confirmed setting as Bethesda gets without saying it outright. That lines up with what players have guessed since the very first teaser showed rocky coastline and sun-baked cliffs.

Second, the date. The quote is stamped 4E 206, meaning year 206 of the Fourth Era. Skyrim takes place in 4E 201, so Sentinel looks set roughly five years after the events of the last numbered game. That is a much tighter jump than the two centuries between Oblivion and Skyrim, which means the fallout from Skyrim's civil war and the wider conflict with the Aldmeri Dominion could still be fresh.

Third, the mood. Moth Priests are the scholars who read the Elder Scrolls themselves, the prophetic artifacts the series is named after, and reading them costs a priest their sight over time. A prophecy about "a future lost" and "a victory undone" hints at a story built around a fate that has already gone wrong.

## What Bethesda has not said yet

The reveal did not come with a release date, a platform list, pre-orders or gameplay. The game was first teased in June 2018 at E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo), and Bethesda has stayed quiet on timing ever since, so treat any date you see floating around as rumor until it comes from the studio itself. The name landed alongside a [40th anniversary video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvcfI8RPZYc&ref=unknowndivide.com) from Bethesda Game Studios, so the timing feels like a studio getting ready to show a lot more.

## What to play while you wait

The smartest move right now is to get caught up on Tamriel. [The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered](https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net/en-US/oblivion-remastered?ref=unknowndivide.com) is the best-looking way into the series today, rebuilt with modern visuals while keeping the original game underneath. [Skyrim Anniversary Edition](https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net/en-US/skyrim10/buy-now?ref=unknowndivide.com) bundles the full game, its expansions and hundreds of Creations, and it is the direct lead-in to Sentinel's timeline. If you want to walk Hammerfell before Sentinel arrives, [The Elder Scrolls Online](https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/home?ref=unknowndivide.com) already lets you explore parts of the Redguard homeland, centuries earlier.

## Why it matters

This one is Surfacing. Skyrim became one of the most played games ever made, and its follow-up has been the most anticipated role-playing game in the medium for years. A name and a setting mean the long silence is over, and the marketing machine at [Bethesda Game Studios](https://bethesdagamestudios.com/?ref=unknowndivide.com) is finally warming up.
