## Who is Pam Voorhees

This is the story the 1980 original only hinted at. Peacock's [episode guide](https://www.peacocktv.com/blog/crystal-lake-episode-guide-what-happens?ref=unknowndivide.com) opens in 1971, when Pam's son Jason drowns at Camp Crystal Lake. One year later she is still keeping her distance from the town and insisting the boy is still out there in the water. Then two strangers show up at her door asking about her past, and the town starts wondering who this grieving mother really is. Betsy Palmer made Pamela an icon in the first film. Cardellini gets eight hours to show how she got there.

The cast around her includes William Catlett as Levon Brooks, Devin Kessler as his sister Briana, Cameron Scoggins as Officer Dorf, Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace, and Callum Vinson as young Jason. Victor Miller, who wrote the original *Friday the 13th*, is an executive producer, and Michael Lennox, Celine Held and Logan George, and Quyen Tran split the directing. Kane is no stranger to prequels either. Peacock notes he co-ran *It: Welcome to Derry*.

## The episode titles are a love letter

On October 14 Peacock revealed the titles as worn video store boxes, and they read like a shelf of the old films: "Camp Crystal," "Part II," "Part III," "A New Beginning," "The New Blood," "Kill Them, Mommy," "Friday..." and "The Final Chapter." Episode seven is a flashback shot in the style of director Douglas Sirk, which is a wild swing for a slasher show, and a good reason to watch all the way through. We will keep this spoiler free past that.

## How to watch and what to grab

All eight episodes are streaming now only on Peacock, and the service also added the first three *Friday the 13th* films on October 1, according to its [October lineup](https://www.peacocktv.com/blog/what-to-watch-new-on-peacock?ref=unknowndivide.com). Watching the 1980 film right after the finale is the move, because the show is built to hand you off to it.

The best tie in is on the [A24 shop](https://shop.a24films.com/products/crystal-lake-the-novel-by-tim-waggoner?ref=unknowndivide.com): *Crystal Lake: The Novel* by Tim Waggoner, based on Kane's series and pitched as a grisly, paranoid slasher saga that reinterprets the origin of two horror icons. It is a smart pick for anyone who finished the show overnight and wants more Pam.
