**Last updated: October 29, 2026.** This hub collects Apple's own guidance for getting the most out of [iPhone Duo](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/iphone-duo-iphde2xz6efm/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com), from battery and charging habits to Touch ID, Split View, cases, cleaning and service. Every step below comes from Apple Support, the iPhone User Guide or Apple's iOS update notes, with a link to the original page so you can read Apple's full instructions.

## How to keep iPhone Duo up to date

Apple's [How to download iOS 27](https://support.apple.com/en-us/128058?ref=unknowndivide.com) page lists iPhone Duo as compatible and gives these steps:

1. Back up your iPhone first. Apple's [Back up iPhone](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/back-up-iphone-iph3ecf67d29/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com) guide covers iCloud and computer backups.
2. Open Settings, tap General, then tap Software Update.
3. If an update is available, tap Download and Install and follow the onscreen instructions.

Keep your apps current too. Apps fill the inner display best once their developers update them, and Apple's [Update apps from the App Store](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/update-apps-iph98709f167/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com) guide shows how: open the App Store, tap your profile picture, then tap Update next to an app or Update All.

## Latest iOS update fixes

Apple lists every release on its [About iOS 27 Updates](https://support.apple.com/en-us/149076?ref=unknowndivide.com) page, and security details on its [Apple security releases](https://support.apple.com/en-us/100100?ref=unknowndivide.com) page. As of this update, iOS 27.2 is the current release and brings additional features, bug fixes and security updates for iPhone. Apple Pencil (USB-C) setup for iPhone Duo is now in the iPhone User Guide, covered below. Apple's published notes for iOS 27.2 do not list fixes specific to iPhone Duo, and we will add them here when Apple does.

## How to extend battery life

iPhone Duo has one battery in each half, and iOS runs them as one.

- **Use Power Modes.** Go to Settings, tap Battery, then tap Power Mode. Adaptive Power adjusts performance on heavy days, and Low Power Mode reduces power use when the battery is low. See [Save battery life with Power Modes](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/save-battery-life-with-power-modes-on-iphone-iphcab9aecd1/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com).
- **Set a charge limit.** Go to Settings, tap Battery, then tap Charging, and choose a limit between 80 and 100 percent to help reduce battery wear. See [Set a charge limit on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/set-a-charge-limit-iph0777c60aa/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com).
- **Keep Optimized Battery Charging on.** It pauses at 80 percent and finishes closer to when you usually unplug. See [About Charge Limit and Optimized Battery Charging](https://support.apple.com/en-us/108055?ref=unknowndivide.com).
- **Charge in comfortable temperatures.** Apple's [Charge and maintain your iPhone battery](https://support.apple.com/en-us/105105?ref=unknowndivide.com) page notes that iPhone performs best between 62 and 72 degrees F and that charging above 95 degrees F can reduce battery lifespan.
- **Check battery health.** Apple's [iPhone battery and performance](https://support.apple.com/en-us/101575?ref=unknowndivide.com) page explains what the battery health readout in Settings means.

## How to keep iPhone Duo cool

Apple's [If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118431?ref=unknowndivide.com) page says it is normal for iPhone to feel warmer while setting up, restoring from a backup, updating, charging wirelessly, gaming, streaming high quality video or using the camera for a long time. To help:

- Use iPhone where the room is between 32 and 95 degrees F, and do not leave it in a parked car or in direct sunlight.
- If a temperature warning appears, turn iPhone off, move it somewhere cooler and out of the sun, and let it cool before using it again.

## How to get faster, more reliable Touch ID

On iPhone Duo, Touch ID is built into the side button. Apple's [Set up Touch ID on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/set-up-touch-id-iph672384a0b/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com) guide and [If Touch ID isn't working](https://support.apple.com/en-us/101612?ref=unknowndivide.com) article recommend:

1. Go to Settings, tap Touch ID and Passcode, then tap Add a Fingerprint. You can enroll several fingers.
2. Keep your finger and the sensor clean and dry, and wipe the button with a clean, lint-free cloth.
3. Rest your finger so it covers the sensor fully, and do not tap quickly or move around while it scans.
4. Make sure your case does not cover the side button sensor.

If you wear an Apple Watch, you can also turn on Unlock With Apple Watch. Apple explains the setup in [Unlock your iPhone with Apple Watch](https://support.apple.com/guide/watch/unlock-your-iphone-apd2a4393dc1/watchos?ref=unknowndivide.com).

## How to use the inner display with Split View

The 7.6 inch inner display is built for two apps at once. From Apple's [Open two apps in Split View on iPhone Duo](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/open-two-apps-in-split-view-on-iphone-duo-iphrj13y9uxz/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com) guide:

- With iPhone Duo open in landscape, swipe up from the bottom of an app, pause in the center, then drag it to the left or right. Then tap a second app.
- Or touch and hold an app icon and tap Open in Split View.
- Drag the divider to either edge to go back to one full screen app.

Apple's [What's new with iPhone Duo](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/whats-new-with-iphone-duo-iphge85m9f19/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com) guide also covers multiple windows of one app.

## How to fix Wi-Fi drops

Apple's [If you can't connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone or iPad](https://support.apple.com/en-us/111786?ref=unknowndivide.com) article walks through these steps:

1. Go to Settings, tap Wi-Fi, and make sure Wi-Fi is on and your network is selected.
2. Restart iPhone, then test the connection.
3. Check your router and network settings.
4. If you use VPN or security software, uninstall it, restart and test Wi-Fi again.

## How to set up a case on iPhone Duo

Apple's [How to set up iPhone Duo Case](https://support.apple.com/en-us/148269?ref=unknowndivide.com) article says to place iPhone Duo on a clean, flat surface free of dust, peel the adhesive liners, then apply the front and back covers with gentle, even pressure. If a case covers the left edge of the outer display, go to Settings, tap Display and Brightness, and turn on Shift Left Edge, as described in [Adjust your display when you put a case on iPhone Duo](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/adjust-display-put-a-case-iphone-duo-iphb5yxn3xjs/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com). See our [best iPhone Duo cases](https://www.unknowndivide.com/best-iphone-duo-cases-nomad-leather-folio-rugged-clear/) and our list of [10 top-rated iPhone Duo cases](https://www.unknowndivide.com/top-rated-iphone-duo-cases/).

## How to clean the inner display and hinge

- Apple's [How to clean your iPhone](https://support.apple.com/en-us/108765?ref=unknowndivide.com) article says to unplug cables, turn iPhone off and use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Keep moisture out of openings and do not use compressed air.
- The nano-texture cover layer is an integral part of the inner display, and Apple says not to try to remove it. Its [How to clean your nano-texture Apple display](https://support.apple.com/en-us/104948?ref=unknowndivide.com) article recommends an Apple Polishing Cloth or another microfiber display cloth, with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol for stubborn smudges only now and then.
- Apple's [Important handling information](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/iphbbe12ba1/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com) guide says to keep sand and grit away from the hinge, make sure the hinge is clean before you open iPhone Duo, and remove items like keys or coins before you close it.

## How to pair Apple Pencil (USB-C)

From Apple's [Use Apple Pencil (USB-C) with iPhone Duo](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/use-apple-pencil-usb-c-with-iphone-duo-iphnr6p9qfqx/ios?ref=unknowndivide.com) guide: slide open the end of the pencil, connect it to iPhone Duo with the USB-C cable that came with your phone, then tap Tap to Connect.

## How to restart iPhone Duo or get a screen back

Apple's [If your iPhone Duo won't turn on or the screens are black](https://support.apple.com/en-us/149396?ref=unknowndivide.com) article covers both cases:

- **One display stays black.** On the display that works, open Control Center, touch and hold the power button at the top right until you feel a vibration, drag the slider to turn off, then turn iPhone Duo on again.
- **Both displays are black.** Press and quickly release the volume button closest to the side button, press and quickly release the other volume button, then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears, about 10 seconds.

If you forget your passcode, Apple's [reset your iPhone Duo using your Mac or PC](https://support.apple.com/en-us/149382?ref=unknowndivide.com) article walks through recovery mode.

## When to contact Apple Support

Reach out to Apple through [Contact Apple Support](https://support.apple.com/contact?ref=unknowndivide.com) or the [Apple Service and Repair](https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair?ref=unknowndivide.com) page if:

- Either display shows lines, spots or damage, or does not respond to touch after a restart.
- The hinge does not open or close fully, makes unexpected noise, feels loose or looks bent.
- iPhone Duo still will not turn on after charging and a restart.

For technicians and self repair, Apple also publishes the [iPhone Duo Repair Manual](https://support.apple.com/en-us/127682?ref=unknowndivide.com).
