The **Jeep Scrambler** is back, and this time it has a V8 and a race-bred front end. Jeep's in-house performance division, SRT (Street and Racing Technology), unveiled the [Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept](https://www.jeep.com/news/wrangler-scrambler-srt-concept.html?ref=unknowndivide.com) in Las Vegas on November 2, and searches for the Jeep Scrambler have been climbing ever since. It is a Wrangler reshaped into an open-air pickup, painted Punk'n orange and built around a 6.4 liter SRT HEMI V8 rated at 470 horsepower. Jeep calls it the first high-speed, desert-performance Jeep concept to wear an SRT badge.

## A 1981 rule breaker, pushed further

The name goes back to the CJ-8 Scrambler, the Civilian Jeep that paired Jeep capability with a pickup bed and was introduced for the 1981 model year. Jeep also points to its J-Series trucks of the 1960s and 1970s as a design influence. "The original Scrambler became an icon because it broke the rules," said Tim Kuniskis, head of American Brands, SRT Performance and Direct Connection division at Stellantis North America. "We asked ourselves a more provocative question: what happens when SRT stops treating the trail as the limit and builds the ultimate open-air desert weapon?"

The answer starts with a Wrangler chassis that designers reshaped from the A-pillar back. There are longer doors, custom rear bodywork, an integrated pickup bed with a spray-applied liner, a redesigned tailgate, unique fender flares and a structural roll cage. Up front is a modern take on the Jeep sharknose nose, a look first shown on a concept at the 2026 Easter Jeep Safari, and the whole thing rides on 17 inch bronze-painted beadlock wheels wrapped in 37 inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tires.

## A first for Wrangler underneath

The headline engineering change is an independent front suspension, a first for any Wrangler. It was developed with off-road racing champion Casey Currie and builds on the setup first shown on the Jeep Striker Concept, which Currie proved in competition when his custom Jeep Gladiator "Striker" took first place in the Evolution Pre-run Trucks class at the NORRA 500, run by the National Off-Road Racing Association. The official specification sheet lists 14 inches of front wheel travel and 15 inches at the rear, where a Currie trophy-truck-style straight axle sits, with 2.5 inch diameter shocks at all four corners and a six-lug wheel pattern. Torque is rated at 470 pound feet, the frame is stretched by about 10 inches at the rear, and the overall width is 86 inches.

## Seats that turn around

The clever part is in the back. The rear seats clip into floor-mounted hooks and can face forward, rotate 180 degrees to face rearward, or come out entirely, which Jeep calls an industry-segment exclusive. With the seats in, the bed is 40 inches long. With them out, it stretches to 71 inches, up to 59 inches wide and 23 inches deep, for 55.75 cubic feet of space to the top of the bed, enough for camping gear or a motorcycle. Inside, there are performance-focused seats in Dark Graphite leather with orange inserts, contrast stitching, bronze accents, SRT embroidery and a rear-seat Jeep Multi-Panel System.

## Can you buy one

Not yet. Jeep is clear that this is a concept vehicle and not available for purchase, and it has not announced pricing or a production date. If the Scrambler has you shopping now, Jeep's current [Gladiator limited editions](https://www.jeep.com/buzz-models/gladiator.html?ref=unknowndivide.com) are the closest thing on sale today, including the Gladiator Willys '41, Gladiator Shadow Ops and the Gladiator 85th Anniversary Edition, each in limited quantities. Jeep is also running [limited-edition Wranglers](https://www.jeep.com/buzz-models/wrangler.html?ref=unknowndivide.com) such as the 2026 Wrangler Willys '41\. ## Why it matters

This one is Surfacing. Jeep turns 85 this year, and the Scrambler SRT Concept is the loudest sign yet that its performance team wants to take the brand off the rocks and into the open desert at speed. Whether or not a version of it reaches showrooms, it shows exactly where Jeep's head is at.
