Most wine accessories live in a kitchen drawer, tangled up with the bottle opener from a long forgotten wedding favor. L'Atelier du Vin, the French house that has been making wine tools since 1926, has gone the other way. Its new [Wine-lover's Curiosities Cabinet](https://www.atelierduvin.com/en/product/wine-lovers-curiosities-cabinet/?ref=unknowndivide.com) is a solid walnut box that hangs on the wall like a painting and opens up to show a full sommelier's kit.

## A Wine Accessories Gift Set Built Like a Cabinet of Curiosities

The idea comes from the Renaissance cabinets of curiosities, the collectors' boxes that wealthy Europeans filled with shells, fossils, instruments and anything else worth showing off. Here the curiosities are tools. Closed, the cabinet is a plain walnut square. Open, the doors swing out to show each piece in its own slot against the wood, with interior doors set aside for keeping corks and labels from bottles worth remembering. The brand describes it as discreet when closed and spectacular when opened, which is a fair summary.

It was conceived in France by L'Atelier du Vin's in house creative studio and handmade in France from solid walnut and walnut veneer. It measures 45 by 45 by 13.5 cm, or about 17.7 by 17.7 by 5.3 inches. A recessed hanging system lets it go on the wall, and four small feet let it sit on a sideboard or shelf instead.

## What's Inside the Curiosities Cabinet

The kit covers opening, serving, preserving and a little bit of learning:

- **Opening:** the [Oeno Motion](https://www.atelierduvin.com/en/product/oeno-motion-silver-wood/?ref=unknowndivide.com) lever corkscrew in chrome and wood, the Bilame twin blade opener, the Garçon waiter's friend in metal, a foil cutter and a cork opener for sparkling wine.
- **Serving:** the Developer Universel aerator with its stand, a Leaf Pourer, a Bubble Cork and a wine thermometer.
- **Preserving:** the Gard'Vin ON/OFF in metal with two ON/OFF stoppers and two cork stoppers.
- **Discovery:** a vineyard map of France.

## The Story in the Toolkit

Two of those tools carry real history. The Bilame is a twin blade opener that slides down either side of a cork instead of drilling through it, which is why sommeliers reach for it with old, crumbly corks. According to [L'Atelier du Vin's own history of the Bilame](https://www.atelierduvin.com/le-bilame-le-tire-bouchon-brevete/?ref=unknowndivide.com), the design was invented by the American Lucian Mumford in 1879, and the house filed its patent in 1949, just as postwar cellars were reopening and fragile old corks were coming back to the table. Parisian sommeliers took to it fast. The Oeno Motion is newer, arriving in 2003, and has since become the brand's signature lever corkscrew.

The company itself, once known as Sanbri, has family roots in Champagne and makes its tools in workshops in the Hauts de France region. Its [100 year history page](https://www.atelierduvin.com/en/our-history-100-years/?ref=unknowndivide.com) walks through the timeline, from a 1930 bottling machine to the decanters and corkscrews it is known for now. That centenary lands in 2026, which makes a showpiece like this cabinet feel like a fitting way to mark it.

## Who It's For

This is a gift for the person who already owns a good corkscrew and keeps the corks from special bottles in a jar somewhere. The cabinet gives those corks a home and turns the tools into something to look at. It is also available through the brand's [US store](https://us.atelierduvin.com/product/luxury-wine-set-wine-lovers-curiosities-cabinet/?ref=unknowndivide.com), with optional wood or metal engraving on the European site.
