Lorenzo Senni has built a career on making trance music from the outside looking in. Today the Milan-based producer announced [All Ages](https://warp.net/releases/626723-all-ages?ref=unknowndivide.com), his first album since Scacco Matto in 2020, and the lead single makes the outsider angle literal. "Art Life & Skateboarding" arrived on October 6 through [Warp](https://warp.net/artists/lorenzo-senni?ref=unknowndivide.com), and its guest voices are two skateboarders, Chad Muska and Jamie Thomas.

That pairing is the whole idea of the record in miniature. Senni has said that Muska is a skater who loves to party and Thomas is one who is straight edge: "They have opposite characteristics within something I love, skateboarding. It makes for a beautiful encounter." Muska is no random cameo. A Transworld Skateboarding editor once called him one of the most marketable pros skateboarding has ever seen, and he was inducted into the [Skateboarding Hall of Fame](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad%5FMuska?ref=unknowndivide.com) in 2020.

Senni's own story has always been about watching a party he never quite joined. His [Warp biography](https://warp.net/artists/lorenzo-senni?ref=unknowndivide.com) opens with the line "Lorenzo Senni was never a raver." He grew up in Rimini as a drummer in the local straight edge hardcore scene, absorbing the golden age of trance and gabber secondhand while his friends went out. What came out of that distance was a sound he calls pointillistic trance: the build, the euphoric synth stabs and the tension of a rave record, with the kick drum and the release stripped away.

That approach carried him through the Persona EP in 2016, the singles that followed and Scacco Matto, and it made him one of the most distinctive names on a label whose history we covered in our [Warp Records starter guide](https://www.unknowndivide.com/warp-records-starter-guide-essential-albums/). It also made him a favorite of listeners who like their electronic music conceptual, the kind of record you think about as much as you dance to, and a natural next stop if you have worked through our list of the [best books about electronic music](https://www.unknowndivide.com/best-books-about-electronic-music/).

All Ages turns the hardcore half of his background up. Warp describes the album as an "internal revolt" that looks at experimental trance and rave through the lens of hardcore punk, skateboarding and straight edge culture, and for the first time Senni uses vocals. Besides Muska and Thomas, Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart appears on "La Persuasione e la Rettorica." Senni explained the shift in drummer's terms: in electronic music there is endless teasing between sections, but in hardcore "it's three drumstick strikes on a snare, or a strum of a bassline, and then you're straight into it."

The visual side was always pointing here. In a [sketchbook essay for Warp](https://warp.net/editorial/lorenzo-senni-sketchbook-of-an-album?ref=unknowndivide.com), Senni explained that his LS logo began as a tribute to the hardcore band Youth of Today and that his Scacco Matto typography riffed on the Uniform Choice logo. The All Ages cover is a red spray-painted stencil of that LS mark, and the vinyl comes with a stencil insert so you can make your own.

The details from the label: 11 tracks running about 41 minutes, from "Art Life & Skateboarding" to closer "KILL LIES ALL," with titles like "Your Favourite DJ" and "XGood Clean FunX," the X a straight edge marker. Warp's US store lists the black vinyl LP at $29.99, 24-bit WAV at $14.99, WAV or FLAC at $11.99 and MP3 at $9.99, with pre-orders open now.

One detail to watch is the date. [Norman Records](https://www.normanrecords.com/records/218756-lorenzo-senni-all-ages?ref=unknowndivide.com) and [Piccadilly Records](https://www.piccadillyrecords.com/170440/Lorenzo-Senni-All-Ages-Warp-Records?ref=unknowndivide.com) list November 20, while Warp's own release page currently shows November 6 for both vinyl and digital. Check the label store before you set a reminder.

Senni is also on the road this fall, with slots at C2C in Turin and at [Unsound](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unsound%5FFestival?ref=unknowndivide.com) in Poland and its London edition in November, and Warp lists a November 26 show at the ICA in London. Six years is a long wait, but a trance producer who never raved making a hardcore record with skaters is exactly the kind of left turn that keeps Warp interesting.
