Meris built its name on pedals that sound like they fell out of a better decade. [Ottobit X](https://meris.us/product/ottobitx/?ref=unknowndivide.com) pushes that idea harder: a stereo modular degradation and texture engine packed with '80s nostalgia, ready to ship now at $599, no preorder queue. It upgrades the vintage-gaming DNA of Ottobit Jr. and Ottobit Sr. with a full lo-fi toolkit that leans into VHS, vinyl scratch and tape-stop theatrics.

## What it actually does

Sample rate sweeps from 48 Hz to 48 kHz. Bit depth runs from 1 bit to 24, with volume scaling and dry blend that the older Ottobit Jr. did not offer. On top of the crush engine you get six glitch types, dual 2500 ms VHS delay, a VHS reverb with play-speed tricks, five modulation types, six modifiers, and pitch modes that include poly chroma, mono chroma, Otto Tune, micro shift and lo-fi. There are two one-button loopers (Push Loop and Wikki Wikki), plus a tape-stop effect with variable speed. A 16-step sequencer can hit roughly 48 parameters depending on the type you pick, a big jump from the six-step pitch/filter/sample-rate sequencer on Ottobit Jr.

Front panel control is denser than the old boxes: bank up and down, three preset select buttons, a full-color LCD, 99 preset slots with 90 factory and 18 artist presets, and a favorite bank for three bookmarks. Spillover between presets is selectable for delay and reverb trails. White noise can be mixed in before the filter. True stereo I/O, 5-pin MIDI, expression, USB-C for firmware or MIDI, and 9V center-negative power at at least 300 mA. Each preset can listen to or ignore MIDI beat clock.

## The colors and the catch

Two finishes ship from Meris: Standard Run in smooth matte black, and a limited Multidimensional Pink small run. Both are $599 and listed in stock on the [Meris site](https://meris.us/?ref=unknowndivide.com). Spec sheets and the free firmware-update form live on the same [product page](https://meris.us/product/ottobitx/?ref=unknowndivide.com), next to the sound clips Meris posted for Deep Breaths, Castle Maze, Quasar Drift and the rest of the demo bank. The pink edition is final sale (no returns or exchanges), and Meris notes that international stock will go through distributors. Founder Terry Burton framed the project as a trip back to riding a BMX to pick out a VHS, which tracks with how the pedal sounds when you lean on the VHS delay and reverb pages.

## Who it is for

If you already live in Meris' world (Enzo, Mercury X, LVX), Ottobit X is the degradation lab that sits next to them. If you are coming from a simple bitcrusher, the sequencer, loopers and VHS engines are the reason to stretch for the bigger box. It is a pedalboard statement piece and a desktop synth-adjacent toy in the same enclosure, with an always-available chromatic tuner from the front-panel switches when you need to stop dreaming and tune up.
