Paul Smith and Fender have teamed up on a limited-edition capsule collection, and it comes with a guitar. Released October 21, the [Paul Smith + Fender collection](https://www.paulsmith.com/fender?ref=unknowndivide.com) spans ready-to-wear, tailoring and accessories, plus a Made in Japan Paul Smith Telecaster wrapped in the designer's Signature Stripe. The timing is not random. Sir Paul Smith turns 80 this year, and Fender marks its 80th anniversary in 2026.

## Why Paul Smith and Fender

Music has run through Paul Smith's work from the start. In [Fender's announcement](https://www.fender.com/newsroom/273602-paul-smith-and-fender-celebrate-music-design-and-craftsmanship-with-a-limited-edition-capsule-collection/?ref=unknowndivide.com), the company notes that as a young man he travelled from Nottingham to London for gigs, selling screen-printed T-shirts to cover the trip home. Those connections later led to collaborations with David Bowie and The Rolling Stones. Fender, founded in 1946, calls itself the world's leading guitar, bass and amplifier brand, and the Telecaster is one of its most recognizable shapes.

As Fender CEO Edward "Bud" Cole put it in the release, "Fender and Paul Smith have both built their legacies around originality and giving people the tools to express themselves."

## What is in the collection

The 16-piece menswear lineup mixes festival psychedelia with the history of London's Wardour Street, once home to influential record shops and a meeting point for musicians and fans. Key pieces on the Paul Smith store include:

- A Tie-Dye Poster T-Shirt and graphic tees built around a "Meet at the Tree" motif, taken from a photograph of Paul's favourite tree in Nottingham
- Record Label T-Shirts in black and ecru that celebrate the labels and independent shops of Wardour Street
- A [Black Sunflower Varsity Jacket](https://www.paulsmith.com/paul-smith-fender-black-sunflower-varsity-jacket?ref=unknowndivide.com), made in Japan from a wool and silk blend with chenille patches, where the sunflowers read as microphones or performers
- A Poster Print Shirt, a Black Sunflower Hoodie, a Black Wool-Blend Zip Jacket and a jacquard tie
- Accessories including a bandana, guitar cufflinks and a plectrum (guitar pick) bracelet

Across the range, Paul Smith's Signature Stripe meets Fender's spaghetti logo, so both identities sit on the same piece.

## The Paul Smith Telecaster

The centerpiece is the limited-edition [Signature Stripe Telecaster](https://www.paulsmith.com/paul-smith-fender-signature-stripe-telecaster?ref=unknowndivide.com), crafted in Japan. It has an alder body printed with the Signature Stripe graphic, a maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard and a vintage-style three-saddle bridge with brass barrel saddles. It ships in a hard case with a certificate, and Paul Smith says each guitar also includes a booklet and an insert with a message and doodle from Paul.

Availability matters here. Paul Smith lists the Telecaster as a pre-order with an estimated shipping date of July 2027, so this is a long wait. The Made in Japan Signature Stripe guitar strap, with leather ends stamped in gold, is available now, and Fender also lists a 12-piece pick set in a collectible steel tin.

## Legss front the campaign

To shoot the collection, the two brands worked with [Legss](https://legss.bandcamp.com/?ref=unknowndivide.com), an emerging four-piece British band. The feature image above shows them in the sunflower tees and tie-dye, passing the striped Telecaster around a red velvet booth.

## Our call

This one is Surfacing. Fashion and guitar collabs often stop at a logo tee, but this one has a real instrument at its center and a designer whose music history is genuine. If you want the clothes, the varsity jacket and tie-dye tee are the pieces to look at now, since limited runs move fast. If you want the guitar, get your pre-order in and settle in for the wait.
