Vertical's new trailer for Pendulum is here. - Author: unknowndivide staff - Tags: Entertainment, #surfacing Vertical has released the official trailer for [Pendulum](https://www.vert-ent.com/library/pendulum?ref=unknowndivide.com), and it is a slow, creeping nightmare about faith, grief and a marriage coming apart. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor star, Mark Heyman directs, and the film opens in theaters on January 1, 2027\. The key art adds that it comes from producer Darren Aronofsky and the writer of Black Swan, which tells you a lot about the kind of unease to expect. The official Pendulum trailer, via Vertical's YouTube channel. ## The story Patrick, played by Gordon-Levitt, and Abigail, played by Dynevor, are a married couple trying to recover from a traumatic event. According to Vertical's [official teaser](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0DMifPj7e4&ref=unknowndivide.com), they travel to a new-age retreat in New Mexico in the hope of healing. Patrick will do anything to help his wife, but he grows suspicious of the retreat's mysterious leader, played by Jacki Weaver, even as Abigail falls under her spell. The new [trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z9o6EP6wvw&ref=unknowndivide.com) sharpens the question at the center of it all. As Patrick's paranoia and fear grow, he has to decide whether he is losing his wife to a cult or losing his mind, and he has to work out what is real before it is too late. That is a great setup for a thriller, because the audience gets to doubt him right along with everyone else. ## What the trailer sets up Where the teaser focused on the trip and the promise of healing, the trailer turns the screws on Patrick himself. Vertical's own description frames him as the unreliable center of the story, a husband whose fear could be the warning sign or the illness. That puts a lot on Gordon-Levitt, and on Dynevor, whose Abigail has to stay open and hopeful enough that we cannot tell if she is being saved or swallowed. Weaver's retreat leader sits at the middle of that tug of war. The key art at the top of this page sets the tone too. Washed in red and black, it shows a hand dangling a crystal pendulum over a woman whose head is tipped back, with the tagline Surrender completely. It is simple, striking and a little hypnotic, which is exactly the point. The poster also notes the producer of Longlegs is involved, another sign this one is aiming for a lingering kind of dread. ## Cast and crew Vertical's film page lists Mark Heyman as director and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Phoebe Dynevor and Norman Reedus in the cast, with Jacki Weaver as the retreat's leader in the teaser. The poster's nod to Black Swan is a strong calling card for a story this focused on a mind under pressure.
