PRS Guitars, the guitar maker founded by Paul Reed Smith, launched the Tekton family on October 20: four new electric guitars built for fast, technical, modern playing, with thinner necks, flatter fretboards, stainless steel frets and brand new pickups voiced to sound right through digital rigs. If PRS Tekton just showed up in your feed, here is what the four models are, how they differ and where to buy one. PRS says this is more than a new model. In its [official launch post](https://prsguitars.com/blog/post/meet%5Fthe%5Fprs%5Ftekton?ref=unknowndivide.com), the company writes that players kept asking for more modern PRS guitars, and that "we are planting a flag for a whole new family of guitars." Video: PRS Guitars (official) ## The four PRS Tekton models - [Tekton](https://prsguitars.com/electrics/model/tekton?ref=unknowndivide.com): the hardtail version, with a figured mango top over a mahogany back, a string-through PRS hardtail bridge and locking tuners. - [Tekton T](https://prsguitars.com/electrics/model/tekton%5Ft?ref=unknowndivide.com): the same mango and mahogany body with a PRS two-point tremolo that can float, plus brass saddles and locking tuners. - [Tekton "Floyd"](https://prsguitars.com/electrics/model/tekton%5Ffloyd?ref=unknowndivide.com): an all-alder body with a Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo for dive bombs and wide vibrato, with non-locking tuners. - [Tekton SVN](https://prsguitars.com/electrics/model/tekton%5Fsvn?ref=unknowndivide.com): the seven-string, with a longer 26.5 inch scale, a seven-string hardtail and Stylus SVN pickups, strung 10 to 59 in standard B tuning. PRS's own product photos show the Tekton in Bloodstone Red, the Tekton T in Violet Tourmaline, the SVN in Imperial Topaz and the "Floyd" in White Holoflake. ## What every Tekton shares The body shape started as a PRS Vela, trimmed down and blended with the classic PRS Custom outline, with a deep scoop for upper fret access and a belly carve. PRS calls it the thinnest body and the thinnest neck it has ever made in standard production. Each guitar has a bolt-on maple neck in a thin "D" shape, reinforced with hormigo strength rods, on a 24 fret ebony fretboard with a 16 inch radius. This is also the first time PRS has brought stainless steel frets into production, and it says it had to retool to do it. Other details from the spec sheets: a 25.5 inch scale on the six-strings, string spacing borrowed from the PRS Silver Sky and Fiore that is a little wider than the usual PRS spacing, offset dot inlays in place of the famous PRS birds, glowing Luminlay side dots, smoked black hardware, high gloss nitro body finishes and a premium gig bag. ## The Stylus pickups and digital rigs The biggest talking point is the new PRS Stylus humbuckers. PRS voiced them to stay aggressive but clear in every position, humbucking or coil split, through a tube amp or an amp modeler. They use Alnico 5 magnets and average roughly 13 (treble) and 11 (bass) on direct current (DC) resistance, which PRS admits is lower output than many pickups aimed at metal. The tradeoff is clarity under high gain and a flatter output that keeps your modeler's tones intact. Every Tekton uses one volume knob, a push/pull tone knob for the coil split and a three-way blade switch. ## Where to buy the PRS Tekton PRS sells through authorized dealers, so the place to check current price and stock for each Tekton model is the [official PRS dealer list](https://prsguitars.com/dealers?ref=unknowndivide.com).
