# raison d'être Announces Descending Into Abyss Approaching Inferno

Swedish dark ambient project raison d'être has announced [Descending Into Abyss Approaching Inferno](https://raisondetre.bandcamp.com/album/descending-into-abyss-approaching-inferno?ref=unknowndivide.com), a new live album that runs close to three hours across 32 tracks. It comes out November 23, 2026 on Yantra Atmospheres, and it is up for preorder now on Bandcamp, where one track is already streaming.

## A live album built on Dante

raison d'être is the long-running project of Swedish sound artist Peter Andersson. The [official raison d'être site](http://raison-detre.info/?ref=unknowndivide.com) describes him as a composer active since 1988 across dark ambient, industrial, drone, noise and experimental music. The new release takes its theme from the Divine Comedy, following Dante and Virgil on their journey through Hell. Andersson opens the release notes with a line about a stream darker than deep purple and a strange path leading downward.

Most of the material is exclusive live recordings from the Northern Excavation Tour in 2025, plus a few later shows in 2026\. Two special 2025 performances fill out the set. The notes say the recordings were taken directly from the stage mixer.

## Three discs, three sources

The first disc collects tour recordings. Five of its ten tracks come from a show in Hamburg, Germany on October 7, 2025, with other tracks taken from stops in Warsaw, Berlin, Stockholm and Turku in September 2025\. One track also draws on a performance at the Ambientalika V festival in Zagreb, Croatia on April 11, 2026, and the disc closes with a show in Athens, Greece from January 24, 2026.

The second disc is a private performance at the Alte Feuerwache Loschwitz in Dresden, Germany on August 2, 2025\. The notes say it was played only for an invited audience, with some of the material picked at the organizer's request.

The third disc was recorded at the Rituals Over Limburg III festival at Nieuwe Nor in the Netherlands on November 8, 2025\. According to the notes, that set differs in part from the tour set.

Only "All Hope Abandoned, Ye Who Enter Here" is streaming so far, so it is the only track with a listed running time. The full running times should appear on Bandcamp when the album is released.

## Formats and credits

The album comes two ways on [raison d'être's Bandcamp](https://raisondetre.bandcamp.com/?ref=unknowndivide.com). The triple compact disc (CD) is a limited edition of 300 copies in a six-panel, extra heavy cardboard digisleeve printed on reverse board, and it includes the digital preorder. The digital album comes as a 24-bit, 44.1 kilohertz (kHz) download. Preorders get the streaming track right away and the full album on release day.

Andersson handled the music, mastering and sleeve design himself. The artwork uses images from the work of Thomas Stothard and Gustave Doré, and the catalog number is YA-2026-115\. Yantra Atmospheres is listed among Andersson's own projects on his official site, and it also put out the digital edition of an earlier live album, Darkened Obscurities (Live at Magasin 4), in October 2024\. That record captured the final night of a 14-date European tour in Brussels.
