Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol put out a five-song EP called Follow Through on October 1, and it works like a trailer for the main event. Every song on it is also on Ca$h Grab, the Austin trio's next album, which their [Bandcamp page](https://rickshawbilliesburgerpatrol.bandcamp.com/album/ca-h-grab?ref=unknowndivide.com) lists for October 23 on LP, CD, cassette and download. If you have never heard them, this is the fastest way in: five songs in under 13 minutes.

## Who they are

The band sums itself up on Bandcamp in one line: "Doom Wop trio from Austin, TX. Big Dumb Riffs at your service." Their Apple Music profile says they formed in 2016\. The Ca$h Grab credits list the lineup as Leo Lydon on vocals and 8-string guitar, Aaron Metzdorf on bass and vocals, and Sean St. Germain on drums. Their own Bandcamp tags file them under groove metal, stoner rock and something they call party-metal.

Doom wop is a good name for it. The idea is the low, heavy end of an 8-string guitar and distorted bass chords, with vocal melodies on top that would not be out of place on a pop record. It is a small band with a big catalog: EPs and singles going back to 2018's Beef, and Ca$h Grab follows Big Dumb Riffs, the 11-song album they released in March 2024.

## The five songs

Follow Through is really a roundup of a year of singles plus one new song. Peaches came out in April, Bough Down in May, The Disappearing Man in July and the title track Ca$h Grab in August, according to the streaming listings. The opener, Follow Through, arrived with the EP on October 1, and at a little over three minutes it is the longest thing here. Everything else lands between two and three minutes, so nothing outstays its welcome.

The band's own album notes on Bandcamp set the frame. They call Ca$h Grab their "most introspective and lyrically vulnerable songwriting to date," and Metzdorf describes the songs as "more pop song forward, while still in the idiom of heavy music." The notes name Built To Spill, Sugar and early 90s Rush as touchstones and say Lydon belts out higher notes than ever on songs including Peaches and the title track. Metzdorf also sings lead on five of the album's 14 songs, so the voice at the front changes from track to track.

That makes this a good EP for anyone who likes heavy music but wants a hook to hold on to, and for anyone who loves a melody but never got around to the heavier stuff. If you liked our look at [Slayer's Reign in Blood zoetrope vinyl](https://www.unknowndivide.com/slayer-reign-in-blood-40th-blood-filled-zoetrope-vinyl/), this is the friendlier, funnier end of the same loud world.

## Hear the album and buy it direct
