# Silverlining Unveils the Reverie Collection by Studio SL

Plenty of furniture news this season is reissues and safe new colorways. Silverlining went the other way. The North Wales workshop's in house design team, [Studio SL](https://silverliningfurniture.com/studio-sl?ref=unknowndivide.com), has unveiled [Reverie](https://silverliningfurniture.com/reverie?ref=unknowndivide.com) in London, a four piece limited edition collection built from Douglas fir and burgundy leather, and for the first time it includes lighting. It is strange, tactile and very much worth your attention.

## Four pieces, four Welsh names

Reverie is Studio SL's second limited edition collection, after Layers In Time. It brings together a chair, a side table, a chandelier and a wall light, each named in Welsh to tie it back to the landscape around the workshop. Silverlining describes the set as a dream like vignette where contemporary craftsmanship and traditional materials meet, and the timber is locally felled. The lighting pieces were developed with the Italian lighting studio [Luce5](https://www.luce5.it/?ref=unknowndivide.com), which marks a genuinely new direction for the studio.

## The Dôl Chair

Dôl means meadow, and the chair takes its contours from the Dee Valley. It is carved from stacked, block laminated layers of locally felled Douglas fir, shaped with five axis CNC machining to handle the compound curves, then sandblasted and sanded by hand. The texture is the point: rugged at the base, softening toward a smooth armrest, finished with White Rubio oil applied by hand. Because of the grain, no two will look alike. It comes in left and right versions in an edition of 8 plus 4 artist's proofs.

## The Dolen Side Table

Dolen is Welsh for loop, and the table is a single continuous gesture that connects top and base. Douglas fir veneer wraps the outside while burgundy coach hide leather lines the inner face, worked with hammering, skiving and hand decoration. Studio SL designed it to be light enough to move around easily. The edition is 20 plus 4 artist's proofs.

## The lighting: Awen and Troell

The Awen Chandelier is the showstopper. At 1.5 meters across, it combines burgundy coach hide leather that is looped, folded, tack stitched and skived by hand with Douglas fir veneer and blown glass. Awen means inspiration, and getting leather to hold a precise shape at that scale while still looking fluid was, according to Silverlining, the central challenge. It is made in an edition of 8 plus 4 artist's proofs.

The Troell Sconce, named for the Welsh word for spiral, wraps leather around a central light source. The reverse face is ball hammered, hand decorated and split to reveal color, and two sculpted art glass panels throw light up and down, bending it into ribbon like patterns across the leather and the wall behind it. That one runs to 20 plus 4 artist's proofs.

## Why it matters

Silverlining's day job is bespoke work, and Studio SL, founded in 2005, usually shapes pieces around client briefs. ## Our call

This one is Surfacing. Collectible design often feels cold. Reverie feels warm, handmade and a little uncanny, and the Awen Chandelier is the kind of object that changes a whole room. Editions are tiny, so serious buyers should contact Silverlining directly.
