Carrie season 2 is the question everyone is typing into a search bar right now, and it makes sense. All eight episodes of Carrie, Mike Flanagan's new take on Stephen King's debut novel, landed on Prime Video at once on October 7, and a weekend of binge watching later, people want to know if there is more coming. Here is the straight answer from official channels, plus the book and the 4K disc worth picking up while you wait.
Is there a Carrie season 2?
Not yet. As of Monday, October 12, Prime Video has not announced a second season, and its own social channels are still pushing season one as the thing to watch. That is not a no, it just means nothing is official yet. What is clear from the official description is that this version was built bigger than the book. Prime Video calls it a reinvention that expands King's cultural landmark and deepens its characters, which is exactly the kind of setup that leaves room to keep going.
If you have not started yet, the story follows misfit high schooler Carrie White, kept hidden at home by her fiercely protective mother, Margaret. After her father's sudden death pushes her into public high school, she has to survive a viral bullying scandal, the casual cruelty of the social media age, and telekinetic powers that grow right alongside her. Every small choice builds to one shattering night.
Who made it
Flanagan, the filmmaker behind The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and Doctor Sleep, is showrunner, writer and executive producer, and he directs four of the eight episodes. King is an executive producer too. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie after a search that saw more than 1,000 actors read for the part. Samantha Sloyan is Margaret White, with Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. If Flanagan is your horror guy, he is also behind the next big Exorcist film, covered in our Exorcist: Martyrs trailer breakdown.
What to read and watch while you wait
- Read the book that started it. King's Carrie was first published by Doubleday on April 5, 1974, and it is still a fast, mean, brilliant read. The new series changes plenty, so the novel plays like a whole new experience after the show. Grab the Carrie paperback.
- Watch the 1976 film in 4K. Brian De Palma's original adaptation turns 50 this year, and the Academy Award nominated film became a horror landmark. The best way to see it now is the Arrow Video Carrie 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) Blu-ray, built from a 4K restoration of the original camera negative, presented in Dolby Vision with High Dynamic Range (HDR10) compatibility, with lossless mono and 5.1 surround tracks. The disc is region free, and the standard edition was in stock on Arrow's official store at publish time, while the Limited Edition has sold out.
- Make it a double bill. Watch De Palma's film first, then the new series, and you will see exactly where Flanagan zigs from the version everyone remembers.
The bottom line
There is no official word on Carrie season 2 yet, but the Prime Video series is streaming in full right now in more than 240 countries and territories, and it gives you a reason to revisit both the book and the film.
