Lost In Cult has opened pre-orders for the Kingdom Soundworks vinyl box set, and it is the one game soundtrack collectors have been waiting on for years. Kingdom Soundworks: The Music of Amos Roddy gathers every score Amos Roddy wrote for the Kingdom series onto four long-playing records (LPs), made by Lost In Cult Records with publisher Raw Fury and Roddy himself. Pre-orders went live on October 21, and the limited gold edition is capped at 500 copies.
What is in the box
This is the full run, not a highlights reel. The set holds the complete soundtracks to five games:
- Kingdom
- Kingdom: New Lands
- Kingdom Two Crowns
- Kingdom Two Crowns: Shogun
- Kingdom Two Crowns: Dead Lands
Everything is pressed on 180-gram vinyl. The packaging carries brand-new artwork from Alariko, with reversible sleeves that flip between daytime and nighttime views of the Kingdom world. Every copy also comes with two 12-inch art cards of Alariko's illustrations and a liner booklet built around an interview with Roddy about piecing the music together.
Two editions, one of them limited
- "Midnight" Open Edition: standard black vinyl, an open edition with no cap.
- "The Monarch's Hoard" Edition: golden marble vinyl, strictly limited to 500 units, with a certificate of authenticity signed by Amos Roddy.
Both are listed as pre-orders on the Lost In Cult shop, and the product page was already showing a low stock flag on launch day. Lost In Cult has not posted a ship date on the product page yet, so treat this as a pre-order you place now and forget about for a while.
Why this one matters
Kingdom started as a minimal pixel art strategy game, and Roddy's quiet, folk-tinged score did a lot of the heavy lifting. You ride along as a monarch on horseback, recruiting subjects and building and defending a realm, and the music sets the whole mood. Kingdom Two Crowns kept that side-scrolling micro strategy format, added cooperative play and grew with expansions like Shogun, set in lands inspired by feudal Japan, and the gothic Dead Lands.
The timing is neat too. Roddy's own Bandcamp page dates the original Kingdom soundtrack to October 21, 2015, so this box opened for orders eleven years to the day after the first score came out. Lost In Cult calls it the definitive collection after more than a decade of waiting, and that is not much of a stretch. Roddy has also scored Citizen Sleeper and In Other Waters, but Kingdom is the series that put him on a lot of shelves.
Lost In Cult is a boutique publisher of art books, physical games and records, and Kingdom Soundworks joins a vinyl catalog that already includes Citizen Sleeper 2, TUNIC and Animal Well. If you want to hear the music first, all four Kingdom albums are on Roddy's Bandcamp, and his official site has the rest of his work.
Our call
If you only buy one game soundtrack box this year, make it this one, and go for The Monarch's Hoard if you can. Five scores, new art, signed paperwork and a hard 500-copy cap is the kind of pressing that rarely comes back. If the gold sells through, the Midnight edition is the same music with no cap.
