An AirTag has no hole for a keyring, so you need a holder to attach it to anything. The right one depends on where it goes: on keys, inside a bag, on a bike or stuck under a car seat. This guide is the short list: five holders with strong buyer ratings when we checked, plus two from Urban Armor Gear. Apple's second generation AirTag keeps the original's size, so these fit both.
A note on the ratings. The star ratings and review counts below are what each listing showed when we checked. Some counts are shared across colors and pack sizes on the same listing.
Belkin Secure Holder with Key Ring: best keyring
Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 36,921 ratings when we checked. The Belkin Secure Holder with Key Ring is a scratch-resistant holder with a key ring. Belkin lists its AirTag accessories on its own store.
Belkin Secure Holder with Wire Cable: best for bags
Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 4,277 ratings when we checked. The Belkin Secure Holder with Wire Cable uses a wire cable loop instead of a ring, so it can go around a bag handle or a stroller frame.
Elevation Lab TagVault Surface: best hidden mount
Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 6,737 ratings when we checked. The Elevation Lab TagVault Surface is a waterproof adhesive mount, sold in a 4 pack, that sticks the AirTag to a flat surface, such as inside a car, under a bike seat or on gear. Elevation Lab sells it on its own store.
UNBREAKcable 4 Pack: best value multipack
Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 17,356 ratings when we checked. The UNBREAKcable 4 Pack is a 4 pack of AirTag cases with keychains, a good pick for a household. UNBREAKcable sells it on its own store.
UAG Scout: best UAG for pets and keys
Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 209 ratings when we checked. The UAG Scout is Urban Armor Gear's scratch-resistant silicone cover for the first and second generation AirTag. UAG says it has a cutout that shows the Apple logo or your engraving, a textured interior for grip and a carabiner attachment point. See it on UAG's store.
UAG Monarch: best UAG for everyday carry
Rated 4.4 out of 5 from 315 ratings when we checked. The UAG Monarch is the rugged UAG. UAG uses a PC and aluminum build with 360-degree protection, a twist-lock carabiner, a key ring and a built-in bottle opener. UAG sells it on its own store.
What we left out
We skipped wallet cards, which hold an AirTag differently, and listings with only a handful of reviews. We also skipped collar-specific holders for pets, which deserve their own list.

How to choose
Where it goes. A keyring holder like the Belkin or UNBREAKcable is for keys. The Belkin wire cable is for bags. The Elevation Lab mount is for hidden spots in a car or on a bike.
Toughness. The UAG Monarch is the toughest holder here. Silicone holders are lighter but wear faster.
Engraving. If your AirTag is engraved, the UAG Scout has a cutout that shows it.
Battery. AirTags use a coin cell. Make sure you can open the holder to change it.
Where to put it and how to care for it
Wallets and small items. An AirTag is thick for a wallet, so a keyring or cable holder is usually the better choice for everyday carry. For a remote, a camera bag or a tool case, an adhesive mount or a small pouch works well. Families who track several things at once often go for a multipack, so every holder matches and spares are on hand when one goes missing.
Keys. Keyring holders are the most common use. Pick one with a sturdy ring, since a cheap split ring is the part that usually fails.
Bags and luggage. A wire cable or a holder that goes inside a pocket keeps the AirTag on a bag. For checked luggage, a holder tucked inside is less likely to snag on a belt.
Bikes and cars. An adhesive mount like the Elevation Lab hides the AirTag under a bike seat or inside a car. Clean the surface first so the adhesive holds.
Pets. Some silicone holders work on a collar, but check that it fits snugly and does not bother your pet. A loose holder can slip off.
Battery and alerts. AirTags warn you when the battery runs low. Make sure the holder is easy to open so a battery change does not mean cutting it apart. Keep in mind that an AirTag that travels away from you can alert nearby iPhones, a privacy feature built into the system.
Cleaning. Wipe silicone holders with mild soap and water. Rinse and dry outdoor ones that see mud or salt.
