Neutrino Effect released FAMINE on February 21, 2025 through Labile Records. It is a 14-track album with a total running time of about 42 minutes.
Inside the release
The notes say FAMINE began as Jon Sanford returned to music after years away, picking up guitars for the first time in eight years during a January and February. They name HEALTH, Jesu, Forever Grey and Hante as influences. The album was mixed and mastered by Andrew Elia, set aside for the release of DISCONTENT, then finished with added bass. Part of the material was split off into VAPORED ANGELS, which the notes call a companion piece.
From the release notes
The notes on the album's Bandcamp page set the scene: "A winter walk, solitary and stark. FAMINE, the latest album by Jon Sanford of Neutrino Effect, began during a period of rediscovery after years of creative dormancy. It's the sound of a mind uncloaked, guitars picked up for the first time in eight years, and melodies forming in the stillness of January and February."
Later, the notes add: "Mixed and mastered by Andrew Elia, FAMINE emerged in phases. Initially shelved to make way for another project, DISCONTENT, released in April, Jon returned to FAMINE with a fresh perspective, adding bass guitar and final touches. The album ultimately evolved, splitting apart to give rise to the EP (extended play) VAPORED ANGELS."
