Neutrino Effect, the solo project of Rapid City, South Dakota musician Jon Sanford, released THEY SHALL BRING DEATH UPON US on October 16, 2026. It is a nine-track instrumental album that runs just under 48 minutes, and Sanford composed, performed and produced all of it himself. The album is out now on Bandcamp and Apple Music, with all nine tracks streaming, and Bandcamp sells it as a digital album with downloads in MP3, FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and more.

Inside the record

The liner notes on the album's Bandcamp page call it "an instrumental record about collapse," and they are specific about which kind: "Not the sudden, cinematic kind, but the slow one that happens inside a person." The album sits in a state of long exhaustion, and the notes list what that looks like: insomnia, dissociation, isolation, addiction and dread.

There are no vocals and no narrator. Instead, distorted guitars, bass, electronics, damaged synth textures, percussion and ambient noise carry the whole thing, swinging between heavy, dense passages and near silence. According to the notes, much of the record grew out of extreme insomnia and the way it bends perception, from fragmented sleep and lucid dreaming to stretches where waking and dreaming blur together. None of that is recreated literally. It became the structure of the album instead, with sounds that appear, vanish and come back changed.

The title is left open on purpose. The notes say the "they" is undefined and could be people, institutions, memories, chemicals, illness or circumstance. The closing lines sum up the idea: it is a record about staying conscious inside deterioration, "Not death itself."

The tracklist

  1. CIRCLE OF TREES (3:27)
  2. SATELLITE FAILURE (5:54)
  3. FENRIR (6:29)
  4. DEATH HUGR (5:51)
  5. BROKEN DEATH (3:56)
  6. COLLAPSED LUNGS (5:54)
  7. FVNERAL (6:01)
  8. SOMNAMBULIST (5:53)
  9. CYDONIA (4:24)

The Bandcamp tags place it across electronic, instrumental rock and post rock. Sanford's own artist bio describes the project's sound as post-industrial electronics, shoegaze, dark ambient and noise.

Credits and the cover

The album is published by Labile Records Inc. through ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers), and Apple Music lists it under a 2026 Labile Records copyright. The cover is a black and white photo collage with mirrored, symmetrical shapes: an overgrown wooden wall on one side and a pale corrugated metal panel on the other.

A busy stretch

Neutrino Effect is not new. On Apple Music, the catalog goes back to the album Out in 2013, and the project's Bandcamp discography runs through releases like FAMINE, VAPORED ANGELS and DISCONTENT. This fall has been especially active. AZRL [CONCISE] arrived on September 24, and the WHTDTHLFT EP (extended play) came out on October 12, just four days before this album.
