Momotaro Jeans is best known for Kojima selvedge, but its next autumn drop barely touches denim. Two new 26AW lines go on sale October 16, according to the listings on Momotaro's online store: a lamb leather set built on an A-2 flight jacket and the brand's own #100 Straight, plus a U.S. Army inspired series in original back satin. Both lean into the military and workwear archive that sits under so much great Japanese clothing.

The smooth leather A-2 and #100 Straight

The Smooth Leather Jacket is designed off the A-2, the classic leather flight jacket. Momotaro cuts it in smooth lamb leather from Entrefino sheep raised in Spain's Pyrenees, which the brand describes as a top-grade breed with a fine, soft texture. The idea, in Momotaro's words, is to take the hard image that leather usually carries and make it feel refined through supple, high-quality material. It comes in navy and black, in sizes S through XXL.

The matching #100 Straight in Smooth Leather takes the brand's standard straight fit and builds it in the same Entrefino lamb. Momotaro describes it as an orthodox straight with a moderate thigh, a gentle taper below the knee and a slightly deeper rise that sits comfortably around the hips. Navy or black, waists 30 to 36. Worn together, they make the kind of tonal leather suit that looks either very quiet or very loud depending on what you put under it.

The Army back satin series

The second line pulls from U.S. Army surplus. Every piece is made in an original back satin cloth and carries an original military-style name label sewn inside, and each comes in navy or olive.

  • Fatigue Jacket: based on a vintage jungle fatigue, updated for modern comfort, in a back satin woven from 100 percent Giza cotton. S to XXL.
  • Utility Shirt: modeled on the M-43 utility shirt, in an extra-long-staple cotton back satin. S to XXL.
  • Cargo Pants: based on M-65 cargo pants, with drawcord hems. Waists 28 to 38.

Using Giza and extra-long-staple cotton for army-surplus shapes is a very Momotaro way to handle the brief: familiar silhouettes, upgraded fiber.

How to buy

All five pieces are listed now on Momotaro's Japanese online store, marked for sale on October 16. The store lists sizes and colors on each product page; check there for pricing and shipping to your country before the release. Momotaro also runs an English-language international store at momotaro-jeans.com with its own AW26 collection section, so check both, and read the brand's Kojima brand story while you wait.

Why it matters

Japanese denim houses earn their reputations on jeans, but the best of them treat the whole American workwear and military wardrobe as raw material. Momotaro taking the A-2 into lamb and the jungle fatigue into Giza cotton shows a denim brand stepping confidently outside its lane.
