Shrek 2 is coming back to consoles, and this time it has couch co-op for four. Aspyr has opened preorders for DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered on every platform, alongside an official announce trailer that went up on Tuesday. The Steam listing puts release on November 10, 2026.
The cult classic, rebuilt
Aspyr calls it the cult-classic, button-mashing co-op adventure, and that is exactly the pitch. You travel through the fairytale kingdom of Far Far Away, from Shrek's swamp to Fiona's castle and everywhere in between, in a classic action-adventure game inspired by the DreamWorks Animation movie. Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and friends are all back, and you smash, throw and kick your way past iconic characters from the franchise.
The remaster is not just a resolution bump. According to the official site, everything has been rebuilt, with better textures, an enhanced UI, 4K resolution and reworked cutscenes. Hidden Easter Eggs are still tucked into levels that relive the movie's big moments, all the way to the castle of Far Far Away.
What is new
Two additions stand out. A new Photo Mode lets you grab snapshots of the swamp and the kingdom, and a new Cheats Menu lets you unlock cheats to smooth out your run. The heart of the game is still the hero swap. You can switch heroes at any time to fight enemies, take on bosses and solve environmental puzzles, using each character's own abilities to push the story forward.
Multiplayer is where this one gets fun. You can play solo, with up to four players on the couch, online, or in a mixed setup that combines couch and online play. Aspyr pitches it as a trip back to a nostalgic era of gaming for pick-up-and-play fun, which sounds like the perfect holiday game to throw on with family.
Platforms and preorders
DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered is up for preorder on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. Aspyr is running a preorder discount on all platforms through November 9, with PS Plus required for the discount on PS5.
Our call
This one is Surfacing. Four-player couch co-op, a Photo Mode and a full visual rebuild of a game a lot of people grew up with is an easy yes for the holidays. We have added it to our Incoming calendar for November 10.
