The 2027 Ford Mustang Mach-E Trail Is Built for the Last Few Miles

The 2027 Mustang Mach-E Trail is a factory package for the Select eAWD with more ride height, the Rally's steering, wheels and Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires, and 400W outlets for camp. It arrives in the first quarter of 2027.

Most electric crossovers are happiest on smooth pavement. The trouble is that a lot of the places worth driving to sit at the end of a rough gravel road, a rutted forest track or a sandy pull off by the water. Ford's answer is the new 2027 Mustang Mach-E Trail, and it is refreshingly honest about what it is for. This is not a rock crawler. It is a Mach-E tuned for the last few miles to the trailhead, the campsite or the lake.

What the package changes

Trail is a factory package for the Mustang Mach-E Select eAWD, not a dealer add on or a limited run. The core of it is a specially tuned suspension with passive front and rear struts and springs, which lifts the car 10 mm at the front and 15 mm at the rear compared with the Select and Premium. Ford then pulls three parts straight off the Mach-E Rally: its steering rack, its 19 inch wheels in High Gloss Dark Carbonized Gray and its Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires.

Those tires are the quiet hero. Nick Rallis, Ford's lead Mach-E vehicle integration engineer, says the combination makes the car capable on loose gravel, sand and two track dirt roads, with a big traction benefit in winter too. Visually you get a Carbon Black lower front fascia, Trail graphics along the sides and a Mach-E Trail logo on the center armrest.

Power for the campsite

The more useful idea is what happens once you park. Trail gets 400W Pro Power Onboard as standard, with outlets in the cargo area and at the back of the center console. That is enough to charge phones and run small gear such as a paddleboard pump, camp lights, a fan or a bike tire pump. Ford also offers a Thule Clamp On Cross Bar Kit for bikes, kayaks and roof boxes through its accessories store, plus an optional Interior Protection Package with all weather mats and a cargo protector. Buyers also get 100,000 extra Ford Rewards points to put toward that kind of kit.

The rest of the 2027 lineup

Every 2027 Mach-E now gets the extended range battery as standard: 88 kWh usable on Select and Premium, 91 kWh on GT and Rally. Ford has not published range figures for Trail yet. If you want hands free highway driving, note that BlueCruise hardware has to be chosen when you order. Ordering is open now, and Trail models are due in the first quarter of 2027.

Our take

The smartest thing about Trail is its restraint. Instead of chasing a rugged image, Ford picked the hardware that matters on the road to camp, a little more clearance, better all season tires and a proper power outlet, and left everything else alone. For anyone who spends weekends outside, that is a more honest pitch than a body kit and a badge.

It also changes what you pack. With power in the cargo area, a string of lights or a lantern like the Barebones Edison Mini becomes an easy add, and a car that reaches the good spots pairs well with the kind of kit in our Snow Peak classics guide.
