The most collectable espresso machine of the year just landed, and it wears a ducktail. Porsche and La Marzocco have unveiled their second joint collection, a limited Linea Micra espresso machine and matching Pico grinder built as a tribute to the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7. It premiered at the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen on October 29 and went on sale on October 30.
Why the RS 2.7
The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was presented in 1972 as a homologation model for motorsport, limited to 500 units. It was the first 911 to carry the Carrera name and side lettering, a nod to Porsche's wins in the Carrera Panamericana road race, and RS stood for racing and rallying. Light, quick and instantly recognisable thanks to its ducktail rear spoiler, it was the fastest German production car of its time and it is still a collector's grail. That is a lot of heritage to pour into a countertop machine, and the two brands clearly enjoyed the job.
The details that sell it
The Linea Micra comes in three historic Porsche colour schemes: Grand Prix White with Green, Tangerine with Black, and Grand Prix White with Blue. The Carrera RS lettering and the historic Porsche logo run across all three. The cup rail on top is shaped after the ducktail. The black handles are laser engraved with RS and 2.7, the analogue manometers get red and green indicators styled in the Porsche look, a magnetic badge carries an RS 2.7 graphic, and a plaque on the side reads One of 911.
That plaque is literal. The Grand Prix White with Green and Tangerine with Black machines are each limited to 911 units. The Grand Prix White with Blue version is sold only in Germany and is limited to 150 units.
Real barista hardware underneath
Under the livery it is a proper Linea Micra, the compact home machine that brings La Marzocco's cafe performance to the kitchen. A convertible 3 in 1 portafilter switches between single spout, double spout and bottomless setups. The brew lever pairs the feel of a classic paddle with the reliability of an electric switch. You also get an insulated steam wand, an easy to reach two litre water tank, LED barista lights and control through the La Marzocco Home app for temperature, settings and schedules.
The Pico grinder takes the same design and adds an adjustable magnetic portafilter fork and an auto close bean hopper, so the pair look and work like a set.
Cups, hoodies and a tiny 911
Around the hardware there is a full lifestyle range: handcrafted espresso and cappuccino cups, barista towels, coaster sets and coffee canisters, plus hoodies, T shirts, caps and socks in the Grand Prix White with Green and Tangerine with Black colourways. There are also 1:18 scale models of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 that come with a miniature coffee machine, which might be the best gift in the whole drop.
La Marzocco has the history to match. Giuseppe and Bruno Bambi founded it in Florence in 1927, and in 1939 the company patented the first espresso machine with a horizontal boiler, now the industry standard. Every machine is still handcrafted to order.
Where to get it
The collection is available through the official Porsche shop in the US and UK, at select Porsche Centers and in select Porsche Design Stores. Check current availability there, and see La Marzocco for more on the Linea Micra itself.
Why it matters
This one is Surfacing. Car brand coffee collabs are usually just paint, but this one rides on a machine people already rate, with numbered runs that will vanish fast.
