The JJJJound New Balance 990v3 Suede drops this Thursday, and it is the cleanest take on the shoe yet. JJJJound and New Balance are back on the 990v3, the silhouette that started their partnership in 2018, and this time the mesh is gone. The whole upper is beige suede over a black sole, and it launches Thursday, October 22, at 9 AM Eastern on JJJJound.com. If you have watched past pairs from this collaboration vanish in minutes, set your alarm now.

All suede, no mesh

JJJJound's own preview page spells out the idea: they wanted to see how the 990v3 would feel made entirely in suede, and removing the mesh gives the shoe a more elevated character. The 990v3 is traditionally built with mesh panels between its suede overlays. Here, tonal beige suede overlays sit on a beige suede underlay, with a tonal comfort suede lining inside. That single material turns a heritage running shoe into something closer to a quiet luxury lace-up.

The contrast comes from below and from the branding. The midsole, rubber outsole and trims are black, the "N" logos are black, and the tongue carries black NB USA embroidery. JJJJound's black logo print lands on the heel tab, and a tonal flat woven lace keeps the top line calm. Under foot it is still the 990v3 you know, with the original proportions and ENCAP midsole cushioning intact.

Made in USA, same 990 DNA

This pair is part of New Balance's Made in USA line, and the official project page lists suede, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) foam and rubber as the materials. New Balance's own fine print applies: its Made in USA footwear contains a domestic value of 70 percent or more, and the line makes up a limited part of its US sales. That scarcity is part of why the 990 family carries the weight it does. If you are new to the line, our New Balance 990 explainer covers where this shoe sits in the family.

For JJJJound, the 990v3 is the anchor. The studio's partnership with New Balance began on this exact model in 2018, and its projects archive shows how the collaboration has kept circling back to material and color rather than loud graphics. The suede edition continues that run, following earlier suede work across the partnership.

How to get a pair

  • When: Thursday, October 22, at 9 AM Eastern.
  • Where: JJJJound.com. JJJJound's pages name its own site as the launch point, and we have not seen a separate New Balance launch date announced.
  • Prep: Make an account on JJJJound.com ahead of time, save your shipping and payment details, and know your 990 size before the clock hits 9.
  • Price: Check the product page at launch. We do not list prices because they change by region.

Full suede also means a little care. A suede brush and a protector spray before the first wear will keep that beige from picking up the city.

Our call

This one is Surfacing. JJJJound x New Balance drops are some of the most watched releases in sneakers, and taking the original collaboration silhouette fully suede is the kind of quiet, grown-up move that ages well. It goes with denim, wool trousers and fleece alike. Want it? Be on JJJJound.com before 9 AM Eastern on Thursday.
