Lauge and E J R M have a new single out. It's Safe To Close Your Eyes arrived October 16 on Lost Note, and it comes in two versions of the title track: a standard version that runs two minutes and ten seconds, and an extended version that stretches to seven minutes and 24 seconds. Together they add up to roughly nine and a half minutes of ambient music.

The tracklist

  1. It's Safe To Close Your Eyes (2:10)
  2. It's Safe To Close Your Eyes, Extended (7:24)

Both tracks are credited to the pair, and the release lists Lost Note on its 2026 copyright line. Apple Music files it under ambient. On E J R M's Spotify profile it now sits at the top of the page as the latest release.

The two lengths do different jobs. The standard version is a little over two minutes, short enough to drop into any playlist. The extended version is more than three times as long, which suits a title that sounds like an invitation to drift off. Either way, it fits the hours when you want the room to go still: reading, winding down at night or trying to fall asleep.

The cover

The artwork matches the title. It is a dark, almost entirely black photograph with one source of light near the center: a lamp glowing under a patterned, rust colored cloth that has been draped over it, a small pull chain hanging below. Everything else fades into shadow. It reads like the last light left on in a house before bed.

Who made it

E J R M is an ambient artist based in Colorado. On the artist's Bandcamp page, E J R M sums up the goal simply: "I hope my music resonates with you and brings you a sense of stillness like it does for me." It has been a busy year: the albums It's Called Healing and Amid Thorns both came out in 2026, the latter on July 17.

Lauge is a fellow ambient producer and a regular partner. This is not the first time the two have worked together. Their track Flux came out back in 2021, and E J R M's five-track EP (extended play) Kites in the Clouds, released September 5, 2025, includes two songs made with Lauge: the title track and "Longing to Return." It's Safe To Close Your Eyes continues that run.
