SatchVai The Sea of Emotion is out today. Joe Satriani and Steve Vai just put their first full collaborative studio album on the table as SatchVai via earMUSIC: 10 songs, about 49 minutes, already streaming with vinyl, CD Digipak and digital live in the official SatchVai store.
SatchVai The Sea of Emotion: what landed today
The record opens on Mayhem, then Bronco Freight Train, Dancing, The Feeling I Know and Zoot Suit Riot before Old Sins Have Long Shadows and I Wanna Play My Guitar, the arena-sized cut with Glenn Hughes on vocals. It closes on the three-part title suite: The Sea Of Emotion, Pt. 1, Pt. 2, and Pt. 3 / Reflections On A Year And A Half. Official copy traces the partnership back to 1973 Long Island lessons, when a teenage Vai studied with Satriani long before either became a solo titan or anchored G3 tours.
This is the first time the pair has fused that history into a full studio album under the SatchVai name. The window opened around a G3 reunion schedule rather than a forced singles campaign, and producer Eric Caudieux kept the sessions honest while a deep bench of rhythm players rotated through the kit and bass chairs. Satriani and Vai write in different ways, so the back-and-forth became the point: chop a take, add an idea, and shelf anything that did not land for both. Advance cuts of Dancing, I Wanna Play My Guitar and The Sea of Emotion, Pt. 1 already sketched the range: playful, heavy and suite-minded in the same run.
SatchVai vinyl and formats
The SatchVai store lists Black 2LP Gatefold, Ltd Ink-Spot 2LP Gatefold, Ltd Transparent Neon Yellow and Turquoise 2LP, CD Digipak, digital and merch, marked out now on release day. Jump from the official smartlink, stream on Apple Music, or start with Mayhem via the Mayhem link. Vai's own site still carries the earlier Mayhem stream and preorder post from September if you want the first-drop context.
earMUSIC sits on the Apple Music line as a label of Edel Music and Entertainment GmbH. Release day puts the full 10-song set next to the physical variants instead of drip-feeding the cart, so you can hear the opener and pick a colorway in the same pass.
If you are stacking late-year guitar listening that prefers dual-solo fire over soft-focus atmospherics, keep this beside Royal Blood's Dead Company and Cage The Elephant's Dying In Reverse. For cart energy around the same weekend, the gear lane still has Guitar Center's Pre-Black Friday deals and the heavier shelf in new metal albums October 2026.
Why it matters
A Joe Satriani and Steve Vai studio album under one name is the kind of guitar-culture release that does not need a marketing thesis. After decades of solo catalogs and shared G3 stages, the full collaborative record finally sits beside the Mayhem video instead of another tease. Day-and-date streaming plus Black, Ink-Spot and Neon Yellow vinyl in their own shop makes it easy to hear the opener first and decide which format belongs on the shelf.
