Every heist movie has the moment where the plan falls apart. In Drag, it happens in the most ordinary way imaginable: halfway through a burglary, one of the burglars throws out her back. Briarcliff Entertainment has now released the official trailer, and the film opens in theaters on January 29, 2027.

The official Drag trailer from Briarcliff Entertainment.

What Drag is about

Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito play two sisters with a contentious relationship who decide to rob a rural home in upstate New York. The job is meant to be simple. Then one of them throws out her back and ends up stuck, unable to move, on the second floor. What follows is a long, painful night as the pair try to get out of the house before the homeowner comes back. John Stamos and Christine Ko round out the cast.

It is a brilliant setup because the obstacle is not a locked door or a guard dog. It is a body that simply will not cooperate, which turns every staircase and doorway into a set piece. The tagline on the film's site sums up the tone neatly: better luck next crime.

Who made Drag

Drag is written and directed by Raviv Ullman and Greg Yagolnitzer. It was produced by Jake DeVito, Lucy DeVito and Danny DeVito, and it is a Jersey Films 2nd Avenue production presented by Briarcliff Entertainment, which is handling the theatrical release. More from the distributor is on the Briarcliff Entertainment YouTube channel.

A festival run built on midnight crowds

This is not a cold open. Drag premiered in the Midnighters section at SXSW in March 2026 and has since played an official festival circuit of 16 selections around the world, mostly genre festivals where audiences come ready to scream and laugh. Along the way it picked up the jury prize for best film at Popcorn Frights in Fort Lauderdale and a special jury award at Sitges in Spain, one of the most respected fantastic film festivals going. The full festival tracker is on the official Drag site.

Why it matters

Horror comedy lives or dies on a good premise, and a burglar pinned in place by her own spine is about as good as they come. With two jury awards already on its shelf, Drag has the festival credentials to back up the trailer.
