Sean Wotherspoon has a new sneaker partner in Mizuno. His brand SWJP and Mizuno Sportstyle have teamed up on the Wave MG4 LS SW, the first collaboration between the two, and it drops on October 30, 2026.

Who is behind SWJP

Mizuno's official announcement describes SWJP as the first brand Wotherspoon has launched under his own name. He is based between Los Angeles and Tokyo and works as a designer, artist, curator, collector and devoted vintage fan. For the Japan side of the project, Ryunosuke Uchida, known as Uchi, joins him as co designer and co creative director, and the two lead the brand's creative work together.

That vintage obsession is all over this shoe. It is a collector's take on a performance silhouette rather than a simple color swap.

The shoe

The base is the Wave MG4 LS, a shoe Mizuno describes as built for comfortable wear and high stability. SWJP reworks the upper with a mix of denim, mesh and synthetic materials, and adds vintage inspired details throughout. Original graphics and special parts finish it off, so the result blends a classic feel with modern design.

Look closely at the official images and the denim is the story. Washed blue panels with raw edges sit beside navy and white striped fabric, which wraps the toe and carries the Mizuno logo on the side. Red toe tips and red collar lining, a flash of bright yellow under the laces, silver overlays and a cream midsole round it out. It looks like a favorite pair of work pants turned into a runner.

Mizuno pitches it as a shoe for a modern lifestyle that moves freely across places, goals and experiences. The US product page calls it a two part capsule that pairs Mizuno Sportstyle's footwear know how with SWJP's culture driven creative vision.

Two colorways

The collection comes in two colors, each with its own story.

  • Global colorway, listed in Japan as Indigo x Navy x Red (D1GD2631, color 01) and in the US as Estate Blue White (style 590222). Mizuno says the light blue and red accents give it a freer, more open mood that stands for the project's journey from city to nature.
  • Japan exclusive colorway, Grey x Black x Beige (D1GD2631, color 02). It uses calm, chic tones that blend into the city while still standing out, and Mizuno says it expresses Japanese culture through SWJP's eyes.

How to buy

Both pairs are set for October 30, 2026, though Mizuno notes the date could shift with production. In the US, the global pair is listed on Mizuno's site as available starting October 30, with sizes listed in men's and women's equivalents a size and a half up, so a men's 7 is a women's 8.5. In Japan, Mizuno lists sizes from 23.0 to 30.0cm with half sizes, sold through SWJP stockists, Mizuno shops including MIZUNO TOKYO and MIZUNO OSAKA SHINSAIBASHI, Sportstyle pop ups in Hiroshima and Fukuoka, and the Mizuno Japan online store. Some stores may hand out numbered tickets on release day, and not every store will carry every size. Check current pricing on Mizuno's site.

Why it matters

This one is Surfacing. Wotherspoon has a gift for making sneakers feel like thrifted treasure, and Mizuno's Wave tech gives him a serious base to play with. The raw denim edges, the striped logo and the city to nature story make this pair feel personal.
