Barbour and FARM Rio Reunite for a Third Collection of Tartan and Bananas

The British outerwear house and the Rio de Janeiro label are back together, and this time the wax jackets come in tartan, banana prints and a hood you can unclip and wear as a scarf.

A waxed jacket and a banana print should not get along this well. Barbour and FARM Rio have reunited for a third season, and the new collection doubles down on the culture clash that made the first two work: proper British countryside outerwear, dressed in the colour and joy of Rio de Janeiro. It is now live on barbour.com and on the FARM Rio site.

Britain and Brazil, a little closer

Barbour frames the story as a celebration of friendship, curiosity and connection across continents, taking you from the British countryside to the landscape of Brazil. FARM Rio puts it more simply, calling it the place where British countryside meets Brazilian vibrance. The campaign brings both ideas to life with a vintage-inspired moving panorama, a 19th-century technique where a painted canvas rolls past so that landscapes overlap and shift between Rio and rural Britain. It is a lovely, slightly old fashioned way to tell a modern story.

The main campaign image says it all. A model in a cream jumper printed with a banana graphic and a tartan scarf holds a camera up in front of a painted Rio skyline. It reads like a tourist postcard from a trip that never quite decided where it was going, and that is the charm.

The jackets

Outerwear is the heart of it. The Attalea Belted Waxed Jacket comes in a Banana Groove print, the Angelina Waxed Jacket pairs Tropical Tea tartan with a banana print, and the Venosa Waxed Jacket keeps it calmer in True Navy with Tropical Tea tartan. FARM Rio highlights a Groove wax jacket whose hood unclips so you can wear it as a scarf or a head piece, a smart detail for a jacket that has to work in drizzle and sunshine.

For lighter layers, there are two belted showerproof styles, the Petrea in tartan with banana print and the Mandevilla with a peplum shape. Quilting shows up on the Anamaria Quilted Jacket and the Dania Longline Quilted Jacket, and the Fernanda Liner adds tartan with a brown banana print. FARM Rio also points to the Alpinias Quilted Liner, a classic Barbour layer made reversible, so you can show the print all over or just let a little peek out.

Knits and tartan

Tartan is the thread that ties it all together. The Tropical Tea check appears on the Allamanda Tartan Pleated Midi Skirt, the Angelonia Wool Scarf and the Angelonia Wool Cardigan, which makes the whole range easy to mix with pieces you already own. Knitwear rounds it out with the Ruellia Crew Neck Jumper and the Sweetia Wool Jumper in Silver Pink. Barbour lists thirteen pieces in the womenswear range, sized from XXS to XL.

Why it matters

This one is Surfacing. Collaborations often fade after the first drop, but this one keeps getting more confident, and the tartan meets banana idea is the strongest yet. It also shows how flexible a Barbour wax jacket really is.
