Fujifilm has a new hybrid instant camera, and it changes the one thing people always asked about. The instax mini Evo 2 is the first camera in the instax series with a touchscreen, and Fujifilm's announcement pairs that with a bigger screen, more resolution and a clever new way to remember the moment around each photo. It goes on sale from late November 2026.

A bigger screen you can touch

The original mini Evo won people over with its retro body and the fun of choosing which shots deserved a print. The weak spot was the small rear screen. The Evo 2 fixes that with a 4.5-inch LCD that Fujifilm says is about 1.5 times larger than before, and you can now tap and swipe through settings like the flash or flick through your shots the way you would leaf through a stack of prints.

Resolution goes up too, with images captured at up to 13 megapixels and saved to a microSD card. Prints still come out on instax mini film at 600 dpi, and you can switch between instax-Rich mode for punchier colour and instax-Natural mode for a softer, classic look.

The moment before the click

The headline feature is called Immersive Movie. Fujifilm describes it as a short vertical clip of the seconds leading up to each shot, so the laugh, the wind or the turn of a head is saved along with the still. Those clips live in the instax mini Evo app next to your photos, where you can add notes and sort them into collections. It needs a microSD card to work, so budget for one.

There is also Expanded View, which shows a wider field around the frame with an on-screen guide, so you can see what is just outside the shot and compose with more care.

Dials, levers and 100 looks

What keeps this camera fun is that it still feels mechanical. There is a Lens Dial, a Film Dial and an analog style print lever that you pull to send a photo to film, and Fujifilm says the controls click with satisfying feedback. The product page lists 10 lens effects and 10 film effects, for 100 combinations in total, and the Lens Dial now carries three interchangeable effect patterns you can change by turning it or swiping the screen. New effects include Afterimage, Soft Focus, Yellow Green and Deep.

The body has been reshaped as well, with a curved form and a lens ring that gives your fingers something to hold. It keeps the classic camera styling of the first model, now in a black finish with a premium feel.

The practical stuff

A selfie mirror on the front helps with group shots, macro mode handles close detail, and a self-timer lets you jump into the frame. It charges over USB-C. The camera doubles as a phone printer through the free app, so pictures from your phone can come out as instax mini prints too. Fujifilm's announcement adds a quick-shot camera case arriving in early December, built so you can shoot without taking the camera out. Release timing can vary by region, so check the instax site for your market.

Why it matters

This one is Surfacing. The first mini Evo turned instant photography into something you could edit before committing to film, and the Evo 2 smooths out its rough edges without losing the hands-on charm. Fujifilm's tagline is Show how you see the world, and the touchscreen and Immersive Movie make that easier to do.
