Knife people circle Spyderco's reveals on the calendar, and the new one is here. Spyderco's Reveal 22 is live, and the headline is the Para Military 2 Lightweight, finally built as a Salt Series knife with a CPM MagnaCut blade. Around it sits a run of burnt-orange REX 121 knives, a titanium flipper made in Italy and the return of a 1997 travel classic.
Spyderco's own homepage frames the batch as "See what's coming soon," and none of the reveal pieces could be added to a cart when we checked on October 13. Treat this as your shopping list, not a checkout. Bookmark the product pages below and watch them.
Para Military 2 Lightweight Salt in MagnaCut
The PM2 Lightweight Salt is the big one. Spyderco says the Lightweight version is more than 25 percent lighter than the G-10 Para Military 2, and its fiberglass-reinforced-nylon handle uses fewer metal parts, which is what made a Salt build possible. The full-flat-ground blade is CPM MagnaCut, a steel designed to balance edge retention, toughness and serious corrosion resistance. You get PlainEdge or fully serrated SpyderEdge, a bright yellow handle that is easy to spot near water, the Compression Lock, a big lanyard hole and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip for left or right tip-up carry. Like every Salt folder, the hardware is marine grade.
The REX 121 knives
CPM REX 121 is the steel for edge-retention obsessives. Spyderco describes it as a high-vanadium, cobalt-bearing tool steel from Crucible that offers the greatest hardness and wear resistance attainable in a high-speed steel. It shows up twice. The Caribbean REX Leaf takes the Salt Series favorite away from the water with a leaf-shaped blade, nested skeletonized liners, a Compression Lock and peel-ply G-10 in burnt orange, the color Spyderco reserves for its elite tool-steel knives. The Kapara Sprint Run, based on Australian custom maker Alistair Phillips' "Redback" design, gets the same steel and the same orange G-10 as a limited edition.
Thyn and Navigator 3
The Thyn takes Spyderco's take on Michele Pensato's Skinny design and scales it down by about 14 percent. lionSTEEL makes it exclusively for Spyderco, with an M390 drop-point blade, ball-bearing washers, both a flipper tab and the Trademark Round Hole, and a one-piece titanium handle with a gray PVD finish, a fatcarbon Dark Matter Polar inlay and a Reeve Integral Lock.
The Navigator 3 brings back a compact travel folder first introduced in 1997. This time it is a non-locking SLIPIT for places with stricter carry rules, made in Maniago, Italy, with a BM390MC blade, a full stainless backspring and smooth gray G-10 scales.
The rest of the reveal includes a Shaman Salt in yellow and black G-10 with MagnaCut, a Bodacious in brown canvas Micarta with CPM CRU-WEAR, a Magpie black-blade byrd, a black-coated Slym and the Pathway Lightweight fixed blade.
Why it matters
Spyderco itself calls the Para Military 2 an iconic design, and a version that will not rust and weighs less is the kind of update people will actually buy. REX 121 in two production-style shapes is the enthusiast flex.
