Apple today introduced a groundbreaking MacBook Pro built around a new PROLED XDR Display and, for the first time on Mac, Touch. The 14-inch and 16-inch models pair that panel with M5 Pro and M5 Max, a thinner and lighter chassis, and macOS 27 Golden Gate. Pre-order is open now on apple.com/macbook-pro and in the Apple Store app, with availability Friday, November 6.
The redesign sits beside yesterday's M6 14-inch refresh, which keeps Liquid Retina XDR and ships the same day, and after this week's iPad mini with A20 Pro and Creator Studio updates. Official details are in the Apple Newsroom announcement.
PROLED XDR Display
PROLED XDR is Apple's first OLED panel for Mac. It uses a tandem OLED design with three new OLED technologies developed with Samsung Display. Peak brightness reaches up to 2000 nits for both HDR and SDR content, contrast is 10,000,000:1, and ProMotion runs up to 120Hz. The panel covers both P3 and Adobe RGB, and a nano-texture glass option is available for bright rooms.
Because the OLED emitters are self-emissive, blacks stay truly black and the panel can be thinner than the previous mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR stack. That thickness cut is part of how the new MacBook Pro sheds weight.
Touch and Dynamic Island on Mac
Touch is built into the panel itself, not layered on top, so the surface stays thin and the image stays sharp under a finger. Multitouch gestures, pinch to zoom, and direct manipulation work across Mac apps that support them.
Dynamic Island comes to Mac for the first time. It sits at the top of the display and surfaces Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI without covering the work. Apple positions it as a continuous glanceable strip for searches, timers, playback, and AI replies while you stay in the app.
Thinner, lighter, M5 Pro and M5 Max
The new chassis is thinner and lighter than the previous generation. The 14-inch model is about 3 pounds, and the 16-inch is about 4 pounds. Inside sit M5 Pro and M5 Max, with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours.
This is not the M6 machine from yesterday. The M6 14-inch MacBook Pro keeps Liquid Retina XDR and targets a different price band. The PROLED line is the new flagship with OLED, Touch, and the M5 Pro / M5 Max stack.
Audio, ports, camera, and macOS 27
A six-speaker system delivers 50 percent deeper bass than the previous MacBook Pro. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging, and a headphone jack, plus Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The 12MP Center Stage camera keeps you framed on video calls.
macOS 27 Golden Gate ships with the new MacBook Pro and brings the Touch and Dynamic Island experiences together with the rest of the Mac software stack. Pricing is on Apple's site and in the Store app; education savings are available for eligible buyers.
This one is Surfacing. PROLED XDR, Touch and Dynamic Island on Mac make this the real next-generation MacBook Pro, separate from yesterday's M6 Liquid Retina XDR refresh. Pre-order is open today if you want OLED and Touch on day one.
