V/H/S/MIXTAPE, the ninth film in Shudder's found-footage anthology series, starts streaming on Shudder today, October 9. The V/H/S in the title is short for video home system, the tape format the series is named after. This installment is built around music and sound. Directors Ernest Dickerson, RZA, David Moreau and Renee Zhan each contribute a segment, Flying Lotus and Tobias Forge of Ghost make music videos for it, and GWAR appear on screen.

What the tape is about

Shudder describes the film as an anthology where music and sound become the source of terror. The theme running through it is how rhythm and audio can haunt, possess, transform and destroy, and the studio promises cosmic horror, psychological suspense, outrageous splatter and practical effects in the same mixtape. The trailer, which runs under two minutes and carries the tagline "Listen if you dare," went up on Shudder's channel on September 24.

Who made it

  • Ernest Dickerson, RZA, David Moreau and Renee Zhan each direct a segment. RZA is the hip-hop icon behind Wu-Tang Clan, and Zhan's segment includes original puppets from Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
  • Flying Lotus directs original music video interludes. The Brainfeeder label founder is also a Warp artist and a director.
  • Tobias Forge, the frontman of Ghost, makes his filmmaking debut with a brand-new music video.
  • GWAR, the shock-metal pioneers, make a featured appearance.

Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber and Brad Miska produce, with Ben Ross and Rami Yassin as executive producers. Shudder bills it as a Shudder Original film, and the studio says the new film is unlike anything the franchise has attempted before.

The official poster keeps it simple: a glitching white title on green tape static, the names above, and the date, 10.09.26, at the bottom.

Why it matters this October

The series has become a fixture of Shudder's fall. Shudder says the last installment, V/H/S/HALLOWEEN, was the most watched exclusive film premiere of 2025 for the service and drove its biggest acquisition weekend of the year. If you want to catch up before tonight, Shudder's channel has the official trailers for V/H/S/85, V/H/S/99 and V/H/S/HALLOWEEN.

It lands inside Shudder's Season of Screams programming, which adds new premieres every week of October. We covered another one, The Cycle, when its trailer arrived, and our Incoming page tracks the film dates to circle next. Shudder streams in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

If the music side is what got you
